Wake Forest Ends ITA Kickoff with a Victory

1/24/2021 2:55:00 PM | Men's Tennis

The Demon Deacons dominated singles play en route to their first victory of the 2021 campaign.

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 12 Wake Forest men's tennis team finished the ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-2 victory over Denver on Sunday afternoon in Fort Worth, Texas.

After dropping the doubles point, the Demon Deacons (1-1) responded quickly in singles play. Both Eduardo Nava and Adam Ambrozy captured straight-set victories on court one and court five to get the Deacs on the board. Nava cruised in the No. 1 match, winning 6-3, 6-2 for his first singles win of the season.

At that point, the match against the Pioneers (0-2) was tied, 2-2.

Siddhant Banthia also finished off his win in straight-sets, as he captured a closely contested 7-6, 6-4 victory on court two to put Wake Forest in front for the first time in the match, 3-2.

After he tied up the match with a 6-3 victory in the second set, Robert Maciag had to battle back in the third set to play clincher for the Demon Deacons.

In the No. 2 doubles match, Banthia and Matthew Thomson cruised to an easy victory, winning 6-2 over Ros and Sallay of Denver. The victory wasn't enough to capture the doubles point as the Pioneers won on both courts one and three to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.

Quotable:

"It was nice to rebound with a win today, especially after losing the doubles point. We already saw some improvement from yesterday and are looking forward to getting some of our other guys healthy and competing again next weekend." - Coach Bresky
