Wake Forest Concludes Non-Conference Action Tuesday Against Loyola

The Demon Deacons enter the contest riding a four-match winning streak following a 3-1 victory over No. 5 Virginia Tech.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest men's soccer will look to extend its current winning streak to five matches when the Demon Deacons host Loyola University Maryland on Tuesday night at Spry Stadium. 

Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the contest will air on ACC Network Extra. 

Fan Information
A number of new fan experience enhancements are planned for the 2021 season. This includes expanded food and beverage options, including availability on Walt Chyzowych Alumni Hill, an enhanced in-game experience, featuring an expanded video board production with additional cameras, replay, and fan-engaging elements, as well as new immersive experiences to promote the unique culture that is known around professional and collegiate soccer.

Ticket Information
The best way to enjoy Demon Deacon soccer throughout the 2021 season is through the purchase of Season Tickets. Packages start at only $45 for adults or $25 for youth and seniors. 

For those wishing to purchase single-game admission for Spry Stadium, advance purchases are highly encouraged. Single game chairback seats are available for only $20, while bleacher admission is $10.

Health & Safety Protocols
Wake Forest Athletics works closely with Wake Forest University, Forsyth County and state officials to follow COVID-related guidelines for the safety of fans in attendance at Truist Field and all venues. While proof of vaccination is not currently required for spectators, we encourage vaccinations for all. We are proud that nearly 100% of Wake Forest Athletics student-athletes, staff and coaches are vaccinated, as required under University and Athletics policy. Currently, all academic buildings are closed to visitors, and masks are required in all indoor spaces. For additional information regarding steps the University is taking to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission on campus, we strongly encourage you to review the University's COVID-19 Notice.

Wake Forest has several gameday guidelines and strategies. First and foremost is required face coverings for all unvaccinated fans in attendance. Additionally, all fans must wear a mask indoors at all times, regardless of vaccination status. Wake Forest Athletics also requires all non-team personnel to be masked at all times inside the field enclosure. 

The Matchup 

  • Wake Forest and Loyola will meet for the second time in three seasons on Tuesday night in the Demon Deacons' non-conference regular season finale. 

  • The Demon Deacons are currently 8-4-1 on the season, most recently defeating No. 5 Virginia Tech 3-1 last Saturday during the annual Genna Wiley Memorial Match. 

  • Wake Forest is 5-2-0 against non-conference opponents this season with four of those wins coming in Winston-Salem. 

  • Loyola, meanwhile, is 6-5-2 on the campaign after a week in which the Greyhounds secured two clean sheets against Patriot League foes (3-0 vs. American and 2-0 vs. Navy). 

  • For their efforts in those matches, Loyola accounted for four of the five Patriot League weekly awards this week, with Daniel Tshiani (Offensive Player of the Week), Justin Ingram (Midfielder), Jacob Denison (Defensive Player) and Chase Vosvick (Goalkeeper) all receiving honors.

  • Wake Forest and Loyola have had one common opponent so far this season in William & Mary. The Demon Deacons defeated the Tribe 4-0 while the Greyhounds scored a 3-0 victory.

Last Time Out

  • For the second time this season Wake Forest took down the No. 5 ranked team in the country at Spry, this time defeating Virginia Tech 3-1. 

  • The victory snapped a seven-match unbeaten streak for the Hokies. 

  • Returning to action for his first appearance since Sept. 28, sophomore Jahlane Forbes opened the scoring in the 35th minute to give Wake Forest a 1-0 halftime lead. 

  • After Virginia Tech scored in the 52nd minute, Wake Forest responded as sophomore Hosei Kijima found senior Kyle Holcomb for the 27th goal of his career. 

  • Wake Forest added to its lead in the 77th minute as freshman Roald Mitchell scored for the third time in his last four appearances. 

Quick Hits

  • With his goal against Virginia Tech, Holcomb moved into a tie with Andy Lubahn (2009-13) for the 10th-most goals in program history at 27. He needs one more goal to move into ninth place alongside Raimo de Vries (1989-92). 

  • Holcomb currently leads the Demon Deacons in points (16), goals (six) and assists (four). 

  • Redshirt junior Jake Swallen, junior Omar Hernandez, sophomore Chase Oliver and Mitchell are all tied for the second-most goals on the team this season with three apiece. 

  • Three different Demon Deacons have now logged more than 1,000 minutes of action this season in sophomore Garrison Tubbs (1,084), junior Takuma Suzuki (1,017) and junior Nico Benalcazar (1,007). 

Scouting the Greyhounds

  • The Greyhounds are currently 6-5-2 on the season following a pair of victories last week. 

  • Loyola is currently tied for second place in the Patriot League standings alongside Navy and three points behind leaders Holy Cross. 

  • More than half of their 20 goals scored this season have come from Justin Ingram (six goals) and Kelan Swales (five). 

  • Ingram has scored in each of the last three matches. 

  • Chase Vosvick has started 11 matches in net this season, recording five shutouts with a goals against average of 0.56. 

Looking Ahead

  • Wake Forest will play its final road regular season game on Saturday night when the Demon Deacons face Boston College in Chestnut Hill. 

  • Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the contest will air on ACC Network Extra.
