
No. 17 Wake Forest to Close Out 2021 Road Slate Against VCU and Richmond

The Deacs hit the road for the final time of the 2021 regular season on Friday and Sunday.

RICHMOND, Va. - No. 17 Wake Forest will close out the road portion of the 2021 regular season this weekend against VCU (Friday, Oct. 22) and Richmond (Sunday, Oct. 24).

Last Time Out
The Wake Forest field hockey team earned a shutout victory on the road against Davidson by a final score of 5-0. The Deacs applied pressure early and often on both the offensive and defensive ends, controlling possession for most of the 60-minute match. 13 Demon Deacons took at least one shot for an overall tally of 25, the second-highest mark this season (27, UMass, Sept. 19), while blanking Davidson in the shot column.
Hannah Maxwell notched her second hat trick of the season as the sophomore found the back of the net in the second, third and fourth periods. Maxwell has now scored a career-high seven goals this season, good for second on the team. 
Eleanor Winants (second period) and Grace Sambrook (fourth period) each found the back of the net for the first time in the 2021 campaign for Wake Forest's first and final goal of the match. 
Nat Friedman added another assist to her team-best total (seven) on the Demon Deacons' second goal while Ashley Hart dished out her first career goal in the 45th-minute.
Sophomore goalie Tori Glaister earned her sixth win of the season, playing 45 minutes in goal. Junior Sloan Isen made her Wake Forest debut, taking over the goalkeeping duties at the end of the third period.
Opponent & Series History
Wake Forest holds a 10-6-1 advantage over VCU. The Deacs had a 10-match win streak snapped in the last meeting between the two teams in 2018. 
The Deacs come into Sunday's matchup with a nine-match win streak over Richmond. Overall, Wake Forest leads the all-time series 12-6-1. 
Lanckohr Among Conference's Best Goal Scorers
Junior All-American Meike Lanckohr has led the Wake Forest offense all season long, tallying eight goals in 10 games. Heading into Friday's match, Lanckohr's eight goals rank third  in the ACC Lanckohr has found the back of the net in six of Wake Forest's first 13 matches to open the season. 
On Tuesday, Sept. 21, Lanckohr was named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Lanckohr led Wake Forest's offensive attack with a trio of goals in back-to-back wins over top-25 opponents in No. 17 Duke and No. 21 UMass. 
In the Deacs' ACC opener against the Blue Devils on Friday, Sept. 17, Lanckohr netted two first-half goals in the 3-1 victory, her second multi-goal performance of her career. On Sunday, Sept. 19, the Voerendaal, Netherlands native found the back of the net for the Deacs' first goal of the game. 
Glaister a Mainstay in Goal
Tori Glaister earned her sixth win of the season against Davidson on Oct. 27. In Wake Forest's last ACC match against UNC, Glaister was credited with a career-high eight saves. 
This season, Glaister has made 40 saves (tied for fourth in ACC), just three of her previous high for a season set last year. Additionally, she has made at least four saves on four separate occasions and has tallied at least two stops in 17 of her last 19 starts.
Additionally, Glaister and the Demon Deacon defense continues to be solid at the halfway mark of the season as Wake Forest has now allowed two or less goals in 11 of their first 13 matchups to open the 2021 campaign. 
Hatty for Hannah (Again)
Hannah Maxwell produced her second hat trick of the 2021 season in Wake Forest's 5-0 victory at Davidson on Oct. 17, finding the back of the net in the second, third and fourth periods against the Wildcats. 
Her career-high seven goals and 16 points (seven goals and two assists) ranks second on the Demon Deacons. Additionally, her seven goals are tied for fifth in the ACC. 
Nat Attack
Nat Friedman has dished out a career-high and team-best seven assists in 2021. This ranks third in the ACC. 
This season, Friedman has assisted on a Wake Forest goal in six matches in 2021, highlighted by a career-best two assists against App State on Sept. 4. 
Earlier this week, Friedman was named to Team USA's Junior World Cup team that will head to Potchefstroom, South Africa on Dec. 5-16. 
The Streak Continues
Wake Forest was ranked No. 17 in the eighth National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll of the 2021 season, marking the 35th-straight poll the Deacs have been ranked. The ninth top-25 poll will be released on Oct.26. 
Last season, the Deacs rose all the way to No. 9, it's highest NHFCA ranking in school history. 
On Deck 
Wake Forest welcomes Boston College in their regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 29 at 4:00 p.m. inside Kentner Stadium. Prior to the match, the Deacs will honor seniors for their contributions to the Wake Forest field hockey program
