
No. 17 Wake Forest Travels to Fort Worth for Colonial Collegiate

The No. 17 Demon Deacons are coming off their first victory of the season, winning the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational by 14 strokes.
FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 17 Wake Forest men's golf team is set to start its third tournament of the 2021-22 season this week, traveling to historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
This year's 15-team field features 10 of the top 20 teams in the country as the Demon Deacons will be apart of the deepest field to date this season. No. 1 Oklahoma State
No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 3 Pepperdine, No. 4 Texas, No. 7 Clemson, No. 10 Vanderbilt, No. 13 Georgia, No. 19 Stanford and No. 20 Florida are all set to compete for the title this week in Texas.
The Demon Deacons are coming of its first team title of the season, winning at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational by 14 strokes with a record-breaking 54-hole score. Their score of 805 beat the previous program record by six strokes.
The Deacs were led by co-medalists in senior Alex Fitzpatrick and sophomore Michael Brennan, who finished the week 12-under par to share the individual title.
After a strong showing at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, freshman Marshall Meisel will make his first appearance in the Wake Forest lineup this season. The Chevy Chase, Md. native tied for 14th in the event with the help of rounds of 65 (-5) and 67 (-3) in the first two rounds of the tournament.
Tomorrow's first round is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. ET shotgun start with continuous play through the second round. Wake Forest will tee off with Texas and Oregon between holes 12 to 15.

Fitzpatrick captured his second collegiate title and his first of the season at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, tying teammate Michael Brennan at 12-under-par for the week.He entered the year as a Fred Haskins Award Watch List member. He also is the current No. 4 ranked player in the World Amateur Golf rankings and is No. 7 on the PGA Tour University rankings.

Brennan joined a prestigious list of Wake Forest golfers with three individual tournament titles with his co-victory along with teammate Alex Fitzpatrick at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational. He was helped by a 62 (-8) opening round, a tournament record and two strokes off the program record for a single round. Brennan joined fellow Demon Deacons such as Arnold Palmer, Webb Simpson and Jerry Haas who all ended their careers with three titles each.

Kennon, who had an impressive showing at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, slides up two spots in the starting five. He was par or below in all three rounds of the tournament, finishing the week tied for ninth and nine-under par, his highest finish to date and first career top-10 finish.

Gillam was the Demon Deacons top finisher at the NCAA Championships as he tied for 13th on the individual leaderboard. The performance helped him earn PING All-America Honorable Mention honors. He finished tied for 26th at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational.

Meisel, a freshman from Chevy Chase, Md., enters the Wake Forest lineup for the first time in his career after a strong performance at the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational this past week. He led the Demon Deacon "B" team on the individual leaderboard. Meisel finished in a tie for 14th at 5-under-par for the tournament.

Colonial Country Club has hosted an annual PGA Tour event since 1946, the longest running non-major tour event to be held at the same venue. The club was started in 1936 and hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, the 1975 Tournament Players Championship and the 1991 U.S. Women's Open. The course sits along the bank of the Trinity River and is located less than a mile from the campus of TCU.
