Wake Forest Ready to Host at Pinehurst No. 2

2/28/2021 1:22:00 PM | Men's Golf

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team is hosting the Wake Forest Invite at No. 2 this week in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

The Deacs are feeling good, coming off their first solo team title and individual title at the Kiawah Invitational two weeks ago. Wake Forest took over the field from the jump, shooting a program record-breaking score of 21 under par in the opening round, the lowest 18-hole team score in relation to par in program history. They finished in similar fashion with their final team score of 37 under par. That score is good for a tie as the third-best team 54-hole team score in relation to par.

Michael Brennan won the individual title by five strokes with a field-leading 19 birdies. He started the tournament strong and finished even stronger, with an opening round score of 67 and firing off a field-low 65 on the final day. Senior Eric Bae was the only other player to shoot a 65 at the event, carding his best in the first round with a hot streak of six birdies in a row.

Wake Forest is currently ranked No. 2 in the latest Golfstat rankings and No. 4 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

The Wake Forest Invite at No. 2 is open to the public and requires all spectators to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Course Information
The tournament is being played at the historic Pinehurst No. 2 with a mix of blue and gold tees for a par 70, 7,125-yard course for the event.

Pinehurst No. 2 has served as the site of more single golf championships than any course in America and hosted back-to-back U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open Championships for the first time in 2014. As the first U.S. Open Anchor Site, the championship will return to Pinehurst in 2024, 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047.

The course was originally designed by Donald Ross in 1907. In March 2011, No. 2 reopened following a year-long restoration project designed to restore the course's natural and historic character, and the strategic options that were the centerpiece of Ross's vision. The project was conducted by Bill Coore, a Wake Forest graduate, and Ben Crenshaw and included work on every hole.

Format
54-hole stroke play where teams play three rounds over two days. Monday morning will begin with a shotgun from all 18 holes at 8:30am ET. The final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
