The Deacs look to take the rubber match in third game against the Blue Devils
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest field hockey hits the road for the first time this spring, as the No. 13 Deacs travel to Durham to take on No. 12 Duke on Friday at 4 p.m.
Wake Forest (4-9, 1-1 ACC) will look to improve their season record to 2-1 against the Blue Devils (3-7, 1-0 ACC). The two teams each won at home during the fall season, with Deacs finishing fifth and Blue Devils sixth in the fall ACC standings.

Ranked Once Again
Wake Forest is ranked No. 13 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's first poll of the 2020-21 season, which came out on Monday.
This marks the 19th-straight poll that the Deacs have been ranked, and the highest ranking for the program since the team started the 2019 season ranked 10th in the NFHCA preseason poll.
All seven ACC teams were ranked inside the top 15. Reigning national champions North Carolina and 2020 ACC Tournament Runner-Up Louisville took the top two spots in the poll.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest put together a strong defensive effort, but could not overcome two early fast-break goals in a 2-0 loss to No. 1 North Carolina at Kentner Stadium.
The Demon Deacons held the Tar Heels to just five shots on goal, strifling several offensive chances in a scoreless second half.
Tori Glaister and the Wake Forest defense forced seven of North Carolina's 12 shots wide. Glaister would add three saves to the defensive effort, all in the second half.
Abby Carpenter fired the Deacs only shot on goal, a first-quarter strike into the pads of Amanda Hendry.
Scouting the Blue Devils
Freshman Darcy Bourne leads all Blue Devils with five goals this season. The Esher, England native has scored in each of her last four games dating back to Duke's 2-0 victory over Wake Forest at home this past fall. Bourne, with the addition of one assist, also leads the Blue Devils in points with 11.
Sophomore Hannah Miller and senior Lexi Davidson are the two leaders in assists, with Miller tallying four assists and Davidson tacking on three. Miller also has two goals from the forward position, while Davidson has scored twice as a defender. Davidson is a perfect 2-for-2 in converting her shots on goal into goals this season, and has scored twice out of her four total shots.
In the cage, freshman Piper Hampsch has started all 10 games for the Blue Devils this season. Hampsch has a 2.37 GAA and a save percentage of .625, but has earned a clean sheet in three of her last four games, including Duke's 2-0 victory over Virginia in the team's opening game of the spring.
2020-21 Spring Season Information
Saturday marks the second of six games against conference opponents this spring. The ACC was the only conference in Division I to play a fall field hockey season, as the NCAA moved its championship to the spring.
The top ACC finisher this spring will face fall champion North Carolina on April 23 to claim the conference's automatic qualifying spot to the NCAA tournament.
Looking Ahead
The Deacs return home for their final home match of the season on Saturday, March 27, when Wake Forest takes on Virginia. The game is currently scheduled to start at noon.
