Demon Deacons Set for ACC Championships
4/22/2021 5:43:00 PM | Men's Golf
Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team begins postseason play Friday, April 23 with the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, held at the Capital City Club - Crabapple Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia.
Wake Forest owns the most ACC team titles, with 18, and the most ACC individual titles, with 22. Wake Forest finished third in the 2019 Championship with then-freshman Alex Fitzpatrick as the top finisher for the Deacs. He finished in 8th place with a six-under score of 210 at Old North State Club in New London, North Carolina. Fitzpatrick is now at the top of the lineup for the Deacs.
After fall golf was cancelled in the ACC due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wake Forest had seven team events this spring to prepare for postseason. Of those seven events, the Deacs came away with two team titles, one tie, and two second-place finishes. Michael Brennan became the first freshman to win two individual titles back to back. Fitzpatrick also took home his first collegiate title this year. Fitzpatrick leads the team with a 70.27 stroke average and Brennan is right behind him with a 70.90.

The Championship event will be held at the par-70, 7,319-yard Crabapple Golf Course at the Capital City Club in Atlanta, which hosted the 2013 NCAA Division I National Championship. This is just the second time the ACC Championship has been played in the state of Georgia and the first time since 1997.
The Capital City Club of Atlanta was founded in 1883. Golf became part of the club's activity mix in 1999, when 600 acres were purchased by the Club for the planned Crabapple clubhouse and golf course. In October 2001, the 18-hole, Tom Fazio-designed golf course was completed. A year later, construction on the clubhouse was finished. Since opening its doors, Crabapple has played host to numerous golf events, including the American Express WGC, the AJGA Canon Cup and the NCAA Southeast Regional, as well as the NCAA Division I National Championship (2013).
Format
There will be three rounds of stroke play over two days. The first two rounds will be Friday, April 23 and the final round will be Saturday, April 24.
