
Wake Forest Opens NCAA Tournament Against South Carolina State

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 10th-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team opens NCAA Tournament play Friday at 5 p.m. (ET) against South Carolina State at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons are participating in their eighth straight NCAA Championship and are hosting for the sixth straight year.
Prior to the Demon Deacons and Bulldogs facing off, No. 35 Ohio State and No. 36 VCU compete at 2 p.m. The winners of Friday's matches are scheduled to face off at 5 p.m. Saturday to determine which team advances to the Round of 16 against the winner of the regional occurring in Fort Worth, TX hosted by 7th-seeded TCU.
Wake Forest goes into this Friday sporting a 78-3 home record since 2016-17. This includes an impressive 44-2 record the past three seasons. The Deacs are 18-2 at home this season.

LAST TIME OUT
- Through two rain delays and a mid-match move to the indoor facility, Wake Forest men's tennis team lost a heartbreaker to in-state rival No. 4 North Carolina, 4-3, in the ACC Championships Semifinals.
- Coming out of a close doubles point loss, Siddhant Banthia, Melios Efstathiou and Taha Baadi responded with wins on their respective courts to spring the Deacs into clinching position, 3-2. A line of thunderstorms made way, forcing the match to be moved into the Rome Indoor Facility with two matches left.
- No. 4 North Carolina would eventually pull out the two wins in tiebreakers.
- The loss is the first for Wake Forest in the semifinals since 2017. It snaps the Demon Deacons' six match win streak over the Tar Heels.
- Wake Forest and South Carolina State have met once. The Demon Deacons swept the Bulldogs, 7-0, in 2016 at home.
- The Bulldogs (7-2) claimed the 2021 MEAC title with a 4-0 win over Norfolk State. It was their 16th championship overall and their 13th in the last 16 seasons.
- S.C. State is led by MEAC Co-Coach of the Year Hardeep Judge and features two First Team All-MEAC honorees, including MEAC Championship Outstanding Performer Elyes Marouani.
- This season's selection marks the 20th time in the program's history of making the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament.
