
Wake Forest Travels to No. 1 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 10th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team is primed for its first road test against the No. 1 Tennessee Tuesday. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons and Volunteers meet for the 18th all-time and the first since 2017. Wake Forest has won the last four meetings, dating back to 2015. Tennessee leads the overall series, 12-5.

LAST TIME OUT
On Thursday, the Demon Deacons took down Charlotte 6-1.
For the seventh-straight match, the Deacs collected the doubles point before gathering triumphs from Melios Efstathiou, Eduardo Nava, Siddhant Banthia, Rrezart Cungu and No. 75 Filippo Moroni to capture a 6-1 victory.
SCOUTING TENNESSEE
Tuesday's matchup with the Volunteers was originally scheduled for Sunday. The Volunteers entered the ITA rankings as the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation after downing No. 5 TCU on the road, 4-3. Junior Angel Diaz clinched the match for the Volunteers in a three-set battle, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
The Vols have six named to the ITA singles rankings: No. 10 Johannus Monday, No. 39 Adam Walton, No. 51 Emile Hudd, No. 58 Mark Wallner, No. 123 Conor Gannon and No. 125 Shunsuke Mitsui
Tennessee ranked doubles: No. 6 Emile Hudd / Shunsuke Mitsui.
RANKED DEACS
Finding themselves in the singles rankings were Filippo Moroni (75), Jakob Schnaitter (85), Taha Baadi (100) and Robert Maciag (117). In doubles, Siddhant Banthia was ranked twice as Banthia and Schnaitter were at No. 19, Maciag and Ben Draper were No. 26 and Banthia and Juan Lopez de Azcona claimed No. 50.
SIX NEWCOMERS
The Deacs welcome six newcomers to the 2022 squad, three by way of transfer and three freshmen. Vikas Deo, Adam Duan and Togan Makzume serve as Wake Forest's trio of freshmen, while transfers Ben Draper (California), Jakob Schnaitter (Azusa Pacific) and Jurabek Karimov (Uzbekistan) each call Winston-Salem home.
UP NEXT
Wake Forest's next action will come at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29 at the Indoor Tennis Center in Winston-Salem. The Deacs will take on No. 17 Michigan on Friday and either Notre Dame and SMU on Saturday.
The team to go undefeated on the weekend will secure a spot in the ITA Indoor National Championships, scheduled for Feb. 18-21 in Seattle, Wash.
