The Demon Deacons have now won 11 of their last 12 matches, highlighted by top-10 wins against Virginia and Louisville in back-to-back ACC contests.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Abby Carpenter's goal in the 54th-minute lifted the No. 12 Wake Forest field hockey team to a 1-0 victory against No. 6 Virginia on Friday evening at Turf Field.

The shutout increased the Deacs' (11-3, 3-1 ACC) current win streak to six games, its longest of the season, and marked Wake Forest's second victory against a top-10 opponent this season.

Throughout its current win streak, Wake Forest has outscored opponents by a margin of 15-4.

Additionally, the win snapped Virginia's (9–4, 3-2 ACC) own win streak of six.

Carpenter's second goal of the season with less than six minutes remaining on the clock was set up by Wake Forest's third penalty corner opportunity of the match as Meike Lanckohr dished out her ninth assist of 2022 on the game winner.

Ellie Todd, the reigning back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, notched a pair of  saves in 60 minutes to earn her 11th win of her freshman season. In 12 appearances, the Boston, Mass. native has made 41 defensive stops.

  • Wake Forest's stifling defense denied another shot and penalty corner by the Cavaliers to keep the match scoreless with just over two minutes left in the first half.

    • Ellie Todd made her first save of the match following a rebound on the ensuing shot following the corner opportunity.
