
No. 12 Wake Forest Travels to No. 6 Virginia and No. 17 James Madison for Ranked Road Contests

The Deacs head into the weekend winners of 10 of its last 11 matches. Wake Forest has outscored opponents 13-1 in the first quarter and has found the back of the net first in every victory this season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 12 Wake Forest field hockey team opens its season-ending road trip with a pair of ranked matchups on the road at No. 6 Virginia (Friday, Oct. 14) and No. 17 James Madison (Sunday, Oct. 16).
Friday's conference showdown, set for a 5 p.m. start, against the nationally-ranked Cavaliers will be broadcasted live on ACC Network Extra.
Sunday's contest in Harrisonburg, Va. is set for a 1 p.m. start and can be streamed on ESPN+ with a paid subscription.
Opponent/Series History
Wake Forest trails the all-time series 29-19 against Virginia while holding a 12-3 advantage against James Madison.
The Deacs have defeated the Dukes seven-straight matches, outscoring the non-conference foe 30-7 over the win streak.
Last Time Out
The then-No. 14 Wake Forest field hockey team displayed excellent defense and scored a pair of timely goals on Sunday, Oct. 9 inside Kentner Stadium to defeat VCU, 2-1.
The Deacs were led offensively by sophomore Ashley Arnold, who scored her first goal of the season in the third period, and veteran Sky Caron, who secured the win with a penalty stroke goal with 90 seconds remaining in the match. Meanwhile, the Rams scored their lone goal in the 56th minute off a misdirected pass.
The score was Caron's sixth of the season and marked her second penalty stroke goal of the weekend.
Ellie Todd, the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, notched a pair of saves in 90 minutes to earn her 10th win of her freshman season. In 11 appearances, the Boston, Mass. native has made 39 defensive stops.
Overall, Wake Forest posted advantages over the Rams in shots (16-4), shots on goal (10-3) and penalty corners (11-3).

The Wake Forest field hockey team was ranked No. 12 in the seventh 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll, its highest ranking of the season. This marked the 43rd-straight NFCHA poll the Deacs have been featured in. Since the poll's inception in 2018, Wake Forest has appeared in 46 of the 47 weekly polls.

Jennifer Averill secured her 400th win as the head coach of Wake Forest Field Hockey on Friday, Sept. 16 with the Deacs' 4-3 victory against Richmond. In 31 seasons at the helm of the program, Averill holds an overall record of 406-221-3 and an overall mark of 426-253-6 in 32 years of coaching.

Wake Forest is currently on a five-match win streak, its second of the season. The Deacs have outscored opponents 14-4 over that stretch and are currently winners of 10 of their last 11 matches.

For the second-straight week, freshman goalkeeper Ellie Todd was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Todd earned a trio of wins during Wake Forest's perfect week against Davidson, No. 7 Louisville and VCU, notching seven stops while allowing just two goals in 180 minutes of action in goal. The Boston, Mass. native was instrumental in Wake Forest's ACC victory over the nationally-ranked Cardinals as Todd posted her third shutout of the season, making five defensive stops in the Demon Deacons' first top-10 win since 2018. Todd earned the first conference accolade of her career after pitching her third shutout of the season in Wake Forest's ACC home-opening victory against No. 22 Duke on Sunday, Oct. 2. The Boston, Mass. native tallied five saves in 60 minutes of game action in goal to earn the seventh win of her freshman season. Todd registered a career performance in the cage in Wake Forest's ACC opener at North Carolina. The Boston, Mass. native became the first Demon Deacon to tally double-digit saves in a match since 2015, registering a career-high 12 stops. Todd currently is tied for the most saves in a single match this season across the ACC.

Delmotte dished out a career-high tying two assists in back-to-back matches against Lafayette and UC Davis before notching an assist in her third-straight match against. The junior played for Field Hockey Canada's 2022 Women's World Cup roster. Delmotte was one of 18-athletes selected to represent Canada in the country's first World Cup appearance in 28 years. Canada defeated Team USA for the bronze medal at the 2022 Pan American Cup to qualify for the World Cup. Delmotte was one of four recent graduates of Team Canada's Junior National Program to land on the World Cup roster. The junior earned her first senior cap in her first World Cup action on opening night against Spain. On July 7, Delmotte found the back of the net to put Canada 1-0 just five minutes into its match against Argentina.

Meike Lanckohr ranks third in shots and fourth in points and goals in the ACC. The All-American was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Sept. 13. Lanckohr earned the second conference player of the week nod of her career after leading the Deacs in a perfect 2-0 weekend on the Wake Forest's West Coast road trip with a team-high 12 points, netting a team-high five goals and two assists. Lanckohr received All-America and All-ACC first team accolades for the second-straight season in 2021 after posting a team-best and career-high 20 points with a career-high nine goals and two assists in 2021. Overall, the Voerendaal, Netherlands native finished tied for second in the ACC in goals, while ranking third in points per game (1.54).

Lee Ann Gordon competed with the U-21 Field Hockey US Women's National Team squad in the Uniphar 5-Nations Tournament in Dublin, Ireland as Team USA took home a bronze medal. On July 26, Nat Friedman was named to the 2022-23 U.S. Women's National Team, heading to Charlotte for training camp on Sunday, July 31-Thursday, Aug. 4.
