
No. 13 Wake Forest Earns Fourth-Straight ACC Win at No. 21 Boston College

The Demon Deacons have now won 12 of their last 14 matches, highlighted by four-straight victories in ACC play.
NEWTON, Mass. - The No. 13 Wake Forest field hockey team picked up its fourth-straight Atlantic Coast Conference victory, defeating No. 21 Boston College, 4-2, on Friday evening at the Boston College Field Hockey Complex.
The Deacs (12-4, 4-1 ACC) were led offensively by Hannah Maxwell, who posted the third hat trick of her career. Maxwell got Wake Forest on the scoreboard with a goal just three minutes into the match.
After Boston College (6-9, 2-3 ACC) took a one-goal lead with unanswered goals, Sky Caron tied the match with just four minutes remaining in the first half following a perfectly-executed penalty corner.
After neither team was able to break the tie for the majority of the third period, Maxwell found the back of the net twice in less than three minutes. Her second score gave the Deacs its first lead since the opening quarter before the Forty Fort, Penn. native doubled Wake Forest's advantage just 90 seconds into the fourth to clinch the two-goal victory.
Maxwell has produced a career-high eight goals this season.
Grace Delmotte, Brooke McCusker, Ashley Hart and Meike Lanckohr were all credited with an assist in the win.
Ellie Todd notched a pair of saves in 60 minutes. In 14 appearances this season, the Boston, Mass. native has made 47 defensive stops.
The Deacs have now given up less than two goals in its last 10 matches, dating back to its 1-0 shutout victory against Ohio State in Columbus on Sept. 18. Overall, the Deacs have held opponents to two goals or less in 14 matches this season.
Constant pressure and smothering defense helped Wake Forest hold Boston College shotless in the first and third period, while allowing just one shot overall in the final 15 minutes of play.
How It Happened

Just three and a half minutes into the match, Wake Forest received back-to-back penalty corners. After a Nat Friedman shot was blocked by an Eagle defender, Abby Carpenter's strike was denied by Boston College's goalie.

Moments later, the Deacs took hold of a 1-0 lead as Hannah Maxwell found the back of the net. Brooke McCusker notched an assist on the play.

The Deacs continued to be the aggressor as Wake Forest took its third corner of the match. The ensuing shot by Sky Caron was blocked.

After the opening 15 minutes of play, Wake Forest continued to lead 1-0 as the Deacs held advantages in shots (6-0), shots on goal (4-0) and corners (3-0).

Boston College tied the match at 1-1 as an Eagle pushed a rebound off an Ellie Todd save into the back of the net at the 16th-minute mark.

Wake Forest continued to attack the circle as the Deacs took its fifth corner of the match before a Meike Lanckohr shot was saved and Hannah Maxwell's shot was pushed wide off the rebound.

The Eagles took its first lead of the match with eight minutes remaining in the second period as Boston College attacked with a breakaway.

Todd registered her second save of the match after a strike deep in the circle.

Caron added an equalizing-goal at the 25-minute mark following Wake Forest's seventh penalty corner of the half.

Delmotte and Meike Lanckohr picked up assists on the Demon Deacons' second goal.

The teams went into the halftime break still tied at 2-2. Wake Forest continued to hold advantages in shots, shots on goal and corners through the opening half. '

After neither team was able to get a solid attack going throughout the third, Maxwell broke the tie with her second goal of the match to give the Deacs a 3-2 lead after three quarters.

Once again, Maxwell found the back of the net, increasing Wake Forest's advantage to 4-2 in the opening minutes of the fourth.

Maxwell's third hat trick of her career was thanks to a diving effort following a rebound of a saved shot.

Wake Forest's defense continued to Boston College over the final 10 minutes of game action, conceding just one attempted shot in the fourth quarter to secure the 4-2 victory.
