
No. 14 Wake Forest Closes Homestand with Weekend Matchups Against No. 7 Louisville and VCU

The Deacs head into the weekend winners of eight of its last nine contests. Wake Forest has outscored opponents 13-1 in the first quarter and has found the back of the net first in every victory this season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 14 Wake Forest field hockey team closes out its four-match homestand against No. 7 Louisville (Friday, Oct. 7) and VCU (Sunday, Oct. 9) inside Kentner Stadium this weekend.
Friday's conference showdown, set for a 6 p.m. start, against the nationally-ranked Cardinals will be broadcasted live on ACC Network.

Wake Forest holds a 13-8 advantage in the all-time series with Louisville.
The Deacs are 10-7-1 all-time against the Rams, highlighted by 10-straight victories from 1994-2005.
Last Time Out
Once again, a pair of first-half goals fueled the Deacs to victory on Monday night against Davidson as Grace Delmotte (first quarter) and Meike Lanckohr (second quarter) found the back of the net in the opening 30 minutes of game action.
The Wildcats answered with a goal of their own early in the third quarter. Undaunted, Wake Forest responded as Abby Carpenter (third quarter) and Sky Caron (fourth quarter) found the back of the net in the second half to secure the Demon Deacons' seventh non-conference victory of the season.
Lanckohr led the way with a career-high tying two assists, while Maggie Dickman, Lee Ann Gordon, Delmotte and Caron also dished out assists in the win.
Overall, Wake Forest posted advantages over Davidson in shots (22-3), shots on goal (13-1) and penalty corners (9-3).

The Wake Forest field hockey team was ranked No. 14 in the sixth 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll, its highest ranking of the season. This marked the 42nd-straight NFCHA poll the Deacs have been featured in. Since the poll's inception in 2018, Wake Forest has appeared in 45 of the 46 weekly polls.

Jennifer Averill secured her 400th win as the head coach of Wake Forest Field Hockey on Friday, Sept. 16 with the Deacs' 4-3 victory against Richmond. In 31 seasons at the helm of the program, Averill holds an overall record of 404-221-3 and an overall mark of 424-253-6 in 32 years of coaching.

Wake Forest posted a five-match win streak from Sept. 2 through Sept. 18, outscoring opponents 23-5 over that stretch and are currently winners of eight of their last nine matches.

Grace Delmotte and Meike Lanckohr are among the best passers in the ACC as the Wake Forest duo leads the ACC in assists with eight apiece. Lanckohr is first in assists per game (.80) and Delmotte ranks second (.73). Lanckohr has dished out two assists in back-to-back games, while Delmotte has notched an assist in those same matches.

Freshman goalkeeper Ellie Todd was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. Todd earned the first conference accolade of her career after pitching her third shutout of the season in Wake Forest's ACC home-opening victory against No. 22 Duke on Sunday, Oct. 2. The Boston, Mass. native tallied five saves in 60 minutes of game action in goal to earn the seventh win of her freshman season. Todd registered a career performance in the cage in Wake Forest's ACC opener at North Carolina. The Boston, Mass. native became the first Demon Deacon to tally double-digit saves in a match since 2015, registering a career-high 12 stops. Todd currently is tied for the most saves in a single match this season across the ACC.

Delmotte dished out a career-high tying two assists in back-to-back matches against Lafayette and UC Davis before notching an assist in her third-straight match against. The junior played for Field Hockey Canada's 2022 Women's World Cup roster. Delmotte was one of 18-athletes selected to represent Canada in the country's first World Cup appearance in 28 years. Canada defeated Team USA for the bronze medal at the 2022 Pan American Cup to qualify for the World Cup. Delmotte was one of four recent graduates of Team Canada's Junior National Program to land on the World Cup roster. The junior earned her first senior cap in her first World Cup action on opening night against Spain. On July 7, Delmotte found the back of the net to put Canada 1-0 just five minutes into its match against Argentina.

In addition to her ACC-leading eight assists, Lanckohr ranks fourth in goals and fourth in shots in the ACC. The All-American was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Sept. 13. Lanckohr earned the second conference player of the week nod of her career after leading the Deacs in a perfect 2-0 weekend on the Wake Forest's West Coast road trip with a team-high 12 points, netting a team-high five goals and two assists. Lanckohr received All-America and All-ACC first team accolades for the second-straight season in 2021 after posting a team-best and career-high 20 points with a career-high nine goals and two assists in 2021. Overall, the Voerendaal, Netherlands native finished tied for second in the ACC in goals, while ranking third in points per game (1.54).

A number of Deacs have been able to net goals through the first five matches as six players have scored multiple goals this season: Meike Lanckohr (8), Ashley Hart (5), Hannah Maxwell (5), Grace Delmotte (5), Sky Caron (4) and Anna Gwiazdziski (3).

Lee Ann Gordon competed with the U-21 Field Hockey US Women's National Team squad in the Uniphar 5-Nations Tournament in Dublin, Ireland as Team USA took home a bronze medal. On July 26, Nat Friedman was named to the 2022-23 U.S. Women's National Team, heading to Charlotte for training camp on Sunday, July 31-Thursday, Aug. 4.
