5/11/2022 2:00:00 PM | Track and Field
DURHAM, N.C. -- Wake Forest is in Durham hosted by Duke this week for the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships (May. 12-14).
Each of the top three finishers in each ACC Championship individual event earn first-team All-ACC honors. Those placing fourth through sixth earn second-team All-ACC. Also, members of each winning relay team are named first-team All-ACC, while the members of teams finishing second and third are second-team all-conference.
The regional meet is set for Bloomington, Ind. on May 26-28 while the national meet will be in Eugene, Oregon from June 8-11. The top 48 declared athletes in the east region will make it to the region championships and to reach the national meet you need to be top 12 to advance to the national meet.
Earning a trip to the national meet will require that an athlete post one of the top 16 marks in the nation this year. The top 12 relay teams from across the country will also reach the NCAA Championship. The only exceptions are the combined events where the top 24 in the nation advance to the national meet.
Deacs in the National Top 16
8. Aaron Las Heras - 10000m (28:13.82)
16. Thomas Vanoppen - 1500m (3:38.34)
Last Time at ACC Outdoor Championships
Overall for the weekend at NC State, Wake Forest tallied six all-conference accolades and had Zach Facioni earn a silver medal in the 5000m event.
Additionally as a team, Wake Forest's men finished in 12th and the Demon Deacon women placed 13th. Individually, the Deacons totaled 10 personal best times and marks and one season best and one school record throughout the week.
