
Wake Forest Opens NCAA Tournament Against Radford

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 9th-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team opens NCAA Tournament play Friday at 4 p.m. (ET) against Radford at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. The Demon Deacons are participating in their ninth-straight NCAA Championship and are hosting for the seventh-straight year.
Prior to the Demon Deacons and Highlanders facing off, No. 41 Texas Tech and No. 24 Auburn compete at 1 p.m. The winners of Friday's matches are scheduled to face off at 4 p.m. Saturday to determine which team advances to the Round of 16 against the winner of the regional, which will occur in Lexington, Kentucky hosted by 8th-seeded Kentucky.
Wake Forest goes into this Friday sporting a 173-23 home record since head coach Tony Bresky took over the helm in 2012. This includes an impressive 103-4 record the past six seasons as the Deacs hold a perfect 24-0 at home this season.

On Wednesday (May. 4), per updated national rankings released by the International Tennis Association (ITA), Wake Forest as a team was ranked No. 8 and continued to see familiar names placed among the lists of singles and doubles.

- This season's selection marks the 21st time in the program's history of making the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament.

- Hitting the courts for postseason action, No. 2-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis took on its first test of the 2022 ACC Championships, facing the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the quarterfinal round. The Demon Deacons showcased collective effort through the lengthy contest but ultimately fell in a 4-2 decision.
- This is Auburn's first NCAA team bid since 2014.
- Auburn is 20-10 for the spring season and finished 5-7 in SEC play; this is Auburn's first 20-win season since 2002. After reaching the SEC tournament semifinals, the Tigers are ranked No. 24 in the latest ITA team ratings and No. 22 in the Tennis Channel/USTA Top 25.
- First team all-SEC performer Tyler Stice is ranked No. 22 in singles, while 2021 NCAA finalists Tad Maclean and Finn Murgett are No. 10 nationally in doubles.

- The Highlanders (14-7, 6-1 Big South) claimed the 2022 Big South title with a 4-3 win over No.1-seed Campbell. It was their seventh championship overall and second in the last three fully-played seasons.
- Radford is led by head coach Rob Bareford and features Aditya Balsekar (17-2), Konstantinos Raptis (14-7) and Andres Silva (15-7).
- Making their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the Red Raiders will face the Tigers for the third time in program history. The Red Raiders are 2-0 versus Auburn with both matches played at neutral sites.
- Texas Tech finished fourth in the Big 12 this season and defeated five schools in the Field of 64. Tech went 4-4 in neutral site matches this year, and split a pair of matches against SEC foes. The Red Raiders defeated LSU (4-2) and fell to Texas A&M (6-1) in Dallas.
- Tech has four players with double-digit singles wins on the year. Junior Dimitrios Azoidis leads the team with 14 total victories while junior Reed Collier has 11 wins, mostly at the No. 2 spot.
