The home of the Demon Deacons fall men’s golf event ranked 22nd nationally according to Golfweek.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A fixture in the Winston-Salem and North Carolina golf community, Old Town Club continues to garner national recognition including being named the No. 22 golf course in the country according to Golfweek earlier this week.
In addition to the national ranking, Old Town Club was also named the No. 2 private course in the state of North Carolina by Golfweek. In other publications, the club has also earned national recognition from Golf Magazine, Planet Golf and USA Today among others.
Old Town Club has served as the official home course of Wake Forest golf since 1956. Like Wake Forest, Old Town also maintains a rich golf tradition. Located immediately next door to the University campus, this 1939 Perry Maxwell masterpiece has just recaptured the attention of the golf world following a 2013 restoration by famed architects, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.
Arnold Palmer won medalist honors at Old Town in 1949 Southern Conference Championship and finished runner-up to Harvie Ward in 1950.
The inaugural Men's Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship was held at Old Town in 1954, where Palmer prevailed again to win his second conference title at Old Town, after serving a three-year stint with the United States Coast Guard. Following that exciting beginning, the ACC Men's Golf Championship returned to Old Town every year through 1958, and then again in 1962.
Today, the club is home to the Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, the home fall men's golf event for the Demon Deacons which is set to enter its fourth iteration in 2022.
The Deacs are the reigning champions, winning by 14 strokes, carding a 805 and breaking the previous record by six strokes. Additionally, outgoing senior Alex Fitzpatrick and rising junior Michael Brennan shared medalist honors at 12-under-par for the tournament.
