
Wake Forest Poised for Nuttycombe Invitational and XC23 College & Open Pre-Nationals

The men will race Friday in Madison, Wisc., while the women will race Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In the final tune-up before the 2023 ACC Championships, the Wake Forest men's cross country team will travel to Madison, Wisc., Friday for the Nuttycombe Invitational, while the women will travel to Charlottesville, Va., Saturday for the XC23 College & Open Pre-Nationals.
At the Nuttycombe Invitational, the Men's 8k Championship race will start at 12:40 p.m. ET and can be streamed via RunnerSpace. Additionally, live results can be found here.
The Women's Blue 6k at the XC23 College & Open Pre-Nationals is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET. The meet can be streamed on ACC Network Extra, and live results can be found here.

The Demon Deacons enter Friday's meet ranked 18th nationally after an impressive 11th place finish at the Virginia Invitational and a third-place result at the Royals XC Challenge.

Friday's race will feature 23 nationally ranked teams, including 17 ranked inside the top 20.

Through only two races, the Demon Deacons have garnered weekly recognition twice from the ACC as sophomore Paul Specht recently earned Performer of the Week honors and Rocky Hansen previously garnered Freshman of the Week accolades.

Women's Preview
Wake Forest received votes in the latest USTFCCCA Coaches Poll for the second time this season. The Demon Deacons recently competed at the Royals XC Challenge – where they coasted to a sixth-place team finish.
This season, the Deacs have been led by standout freshman Brooke Wilson as the Castle Rock, Colo., native has recorded a pair of top-10 finishes to open her collegiate career.
Big Stage
Saturday's race will feature eight teams either ranked or receiving votes, including No. 6 BYU and No. 7 Virginia.

In her first race of the 2023 campaign, junior Emma Douglass clocked an impressive 18:04.14 in the 5k at the Royals XC Challenge to capture ACC Performer of the Week honors.
Behind Douglass' performance, the Demon Deacons recorded a sixth-place team finish, marking their third-consecutive top-10 finish to open the 2023 season.
Regional Ranking
The Deacs are currently ranked sixth in the Southeast Region by the USTFCCCA, after finishing eighth a season ago.

After both meets, Wake Forest will turn its attention to the 2023 ACC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 27 in Tallahassee, Fla.
