Four school records were broken over the weekend between the two programs.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Highlighted by graduate student Thomas Vanoppen's school record in the mile, the Wake Forest men's and women's indoor track & field programs had another solid weekend as a total of four school records were broken between the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the Darius Dixon Invitational.
Vanoppen, a product of Westerlo, Belgium, clocked 3:54.85 in the mile, breaking the Wake Forest record by over five seconds. Vanoppen's performance marked the second-best time run by a Belgium native and was his first time going sub-four in the mile.
For the third-consecutive week, graduate student Mackenna Curtis-Collins broke a school record as she clocked 9:00.91 in the 3k at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational Friday.
In the men's weight throw at the Darius Dixon Invitational, graduate student Andrew White tossed 21.13m to break the Wake Forest record. Of note, with Friday's performance, White now owns two of the top three marks in school history.
Saturday, graduate student Zach Facioni broke the school record in the 3k, finishing in 7:46.76.
In the women's throwing events, Wake Forest continued its dominance as graduate student Amanda Schaare won the shot put, tossing 15.59m. Of note, Ashlyn Giles finished third in the event tossing 15.12m.
In addition to breaking four school records, Wake Forest won two events between the two programs. Additionally, the Demon Deacons recorded eight top-three finishes.
Notable Finishes
"This weekend, we had several school records - Mackenna, Thomas, Zach and Andrew. This weekend allows us to figure out who is prepared to compete at ACC. We were also able to rest a few that I believe will contribute in two weeks. We are excited to see the facility at Louisville and compete against a very strong ACC." - director of track & field John Hayes
"What an incredible weekend of competition for the Deacs. For the third weekend in a row, we saw multiple program records fall and the indoor season isn't over yet. I can't wait to see what the Deacs accomplish at the ACC Indoor Championships in two weeks." - associate head coach Ashley Bastron
"It was nice to see Andrew White get the school record in the weight throw this weekend. That is something we can now check off our bucket list for the season. I feel like the throws group is building up for some really good results at the ACC Championship meet in a few weeks." - associate head coach Collin Post
