Top-Ranked Demon Deacons Set to Defend Atlantic Coast Conference Title

4/12/2023 6:13:00 PM | Women's Golf

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The No. 1-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team begins postseason play tomorrow, April 13, at the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships hosted at Sedgefield Golf Club.

Wake Forest is coming off a program-record five regular season team titles in the 2022-23 season. They kicked off the year with back-to-back wins at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate and the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate. They won the stroke play portion of the Jackson T. Stephens Cup and finished the fall with second place finishes at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invite and the Landfall Tradition.

This spring, the Deacs won back-to-back events again at the UCF Challenge and the Nexus Collegiate. They finished fourth at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate before earning the record-breaking fifth win at the Valspar Augusta Invitational.

Senior Rachel Kuehn won two individual titles, taking home the trophies at the Stephen's Cup and the Valspar Invitational. The Asheville native has now won at least one individual title in each of her six semesters of college golf.
Spring 2020 was cut short due to COVID and there was no ACC golf in the fall of 2020.

Kuehn leads the Deacs with a 70.19 stroke average over 26 rounds this season. Fellow senior Lauren Walsh is second with a 71.19 over 26 rounds. Missing one event in the fall, Carolina Chacarra is third with a 71.39 average over 23 rounds. Veteran Emilia Migliaccio has a 71.81 stroke average over 26 rounds and Mimi Rhodes is at 73.31 over 26 rounds.

Wake Forest enters Championship week boasting the 2022 ACC Team title, ACC Coach of the Year and ACC Player and Freshman of the Year in Kim Lewellen, Rachel Kuehn and Carolina Chacarra. As the number one seed for the week, the Deacs have spent the majority of the season ranked No. 2 in Golfstat behind Stanford and No. 1 in Golfweek, ahead of Stanford. Wake Forest is the only ACC school currently ranked inside the top 10 on Golfstat.
