The Demon Deacons are the first team this season to defeat Campbell at the Eakes Athletics Complex.
BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- The No. 10 ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team (6-1-3, 1-1-1 ACC) earned its first road victory of the season on Tuesday night, downing Campbell (1-3-4, 0-2-2 CAA) 3-1 at Eakes Athletics Complex.
The Demon Deacons struck twice in the first 20 minutes of action, as Jake Swallen scored the match's first goal of the night in the 11th minute before Garrison Tubbs doubled the Wake Forest lead eight minutes later. On Tubbs' goal, Swallen took an out-swinging corner kick that found Prince Amponsah before he headed it to the Brunswick, Ga., native for the first strike of his senior season.
After Campbell scored in the opening minutes of the second half, Julian Kennedy netted his first of the season in the 83rd to solidify the victory.
Wake Forest will next travel to Boston College for a Friday afternoon matinee in ACC action. The match will kick-off at 2 p.m. and be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
Against The Non-Conference Competition
With Tuesday night's victory over Campbell, the Demon Deacons are now 4-0-2 against non-ACC opponents this season, outscoring those foes a combined 19-5.
Wake Forest vs. Non-Conference Opponents in 2023
"It was a gritty game but hats off to Campbell. We went up 2-0 in the first 20 minutes of the match, and when the game was a little bit in our control towards the end of the second half, they found a little bit of life. We put ourselves in a little bit of a pickle turning the ball over in the back and really it's remedial for us in some ways in the build that should have been easy for us to get out. But we made it difficult and they made us pay and we were under it for a little bit, but I give our guys a lot of credit. They had a lot of perseverance and a lot of resilience to come back and really put the game away. We gave up some shots from distance but nothing really dangerous besides the goal. It's a good road win for us."
