
Wake Forest Falls at No. 1 North Carolina

The Deacs return to action on Sunday against James Madison.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team fell 7-0 to No. 1 North Carolina on Friday night at Karen Shelton Stadium.
Sophomore's Faye Janse and Mia Schoenbeck led the Deacs with a pair of shots each as Wake Forest finished the contest with seven shots on the night.
Junior Rachel Thetford had the lone shot on goal for the Deacs, as North Carolina finished with a 14-1 edge in the category, while also generating nine penalty corners to Wake Forest's three corners.
In goal, junior Ellie Todd added seven saves and now has 55 on the season. For the fifth time this season, Todd finished with five or more saves. She now has 180 saves in 49 career games.

How It Happened
- North Carolina opened the scoring with a pair of goals early in the first period.
- Goalkeeper Ellie Todd added three saves in the quarter to keep the Deacs within striking distance.
- Todd added her fourth save of the night early in the second quarter.
- Freshman Lena Keller ripped the first shot of the night for the Demon Deacons in the second quarter, but the North Carolina defense blocked the attempt.
- The Tar Heels added their third goal with just over three minutes left in the half.
- Wake Forest came out on the front foot in the second half putting together a nice run of play to earn their first penalty corner of the match.
- Freshman Lauren Storey had her penalty blocked leading to a second corner.
- Forward Rachel Thetford forced the North Carolina keeper into action with her shot on goal.
- North Carolina extend their lead to 5-0 with a pair of late third quarter goals.
- Todd made her seventh save of the evening three minutes into the final quarter.
- A penalty stroke goal extend the Tar Heel lead to 6-0.
- North Carolina added their seventh with just over two minutes left in the contest off a penalty corner.
- The Deacs had a pair of shots in the final minutes, but were unable to get on the board.
