WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest field hockey heads back on the road for the remainder of the month after playing the last five matches at Kentner Stadium starting with a pair of matches this weekend.

The Deacs open their weekend slate against No. 1 North Carolina on Friday, Oct. 18th at 6 p.m. with the game airing nationally on ACC Network.

Wake Forest closes non-conference action for the season with a trip to James Madison on Sunday, Oct. 20 on ESPN+. First touch against the Dukes is set for 1 p.m.

Opponent/Series History
  • Wake Forest and North Carolina will meet for the 85th time on Friday with the Tar Heels holding a 60-21-3 advantage in the series dating back to 1972. Jen Averill has been at the helm for 20 of the Demon Deacons 21 wins over North Carolina.
  • Wake Forest and James Madison will play against each other for the 18th time on Sunday with the Deacs leading the all-time series 13-4. The Demon Deacons have won eight of the last nine against the Dukes, outscoring JMU 31-9 over the span.

Wake Forest Highlights
  • Head coach Jen Averill is in her 33rd season at the helm of the Wake Forest field hockey program, amassing an overall record of 424-240-3 as a Demon Deacon and an overall mark of 444-272-6 in 33 years of coaching.
  • Wake's underclassmen have been the story so far, as freshmen and sophomore student-athletes have combined for 47 of Wake's 61 points.
  • A season ago, the Deacs had just one athlete go for over eight points on the season. In 2024, four student-athletes are over the eight-point mark, with all four being underclassmen.
  • Junior goalkeeper Ellie Todd is second among league keepers at 4.00 SPG.
    • Todd also ranks second in the ACC with 48 saves on the season and is the only ACC goalie with a save percentage over .760 and at least 25 saves.
    •  She is one of five ACC goalies with three shutouts so far this season.
    • Her eight saves against Michigan is tied for the fourth most by an ACC goalie this season.
    • Through 12 games, Todd has the lowest goals against average of her career, posting a 1.20 GAA this season while also having a career-best .762 save percentage. She now has 173 saves in 48 career games.
  • Sophomore Mia Schoenbeck was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, announced by the league ahead of the season.
    • In her debut season, Schoenbeck netted two goals and an assist to finish her freshman campaign with five points. She made 13 starts for the Demon Deacons, appearing in all 17 matches.
    • The Louisville, Kentucky native was one of just two freshmen named to the NFHCA South All-Region Second Team.
    • A member of Team USA at the 2024 Junior Pan American Championships, Schoenbeck helped guide her country to silver at the games, including a goal in the 32nd minute against Canada in the final game of the group stage.
  • Schoenbeck made her mark early on the 2024 season with an assist, finding fellow sophomore Faye Janse for the first goal of the 2024 season for the Deacs and followed it with her first goal against VCU rocketing a penalty corner into the back of the cage. She followed that up by scoring a brace in the 6-0 win against Davidson.
  • Freshman Lauren Storey is one of 23 student-athletes in the ACC with four goals or more to start the year, having struck four times in the last eight matches.
    • App State had no answers for Storey in the second half, as she fired a penalty stroke past the App State keeper in the third quarter to extend the Wake Forest lead. The Auckland, New Zealand native capped the scoring for Wake early in the fourth quarter. Storey sent a laser into the bottom left corner of the cage to make it 3-0 before the half against VCU, before adding her fourth against Kent St.
  • Freshman Mia Montag is one of 12 ACC student-athletes with five or more assists on the season.
    • Montag has found a knack for finding her teammates with four assists in the last four matches for the Deacs.
    • The freshman added a pair against Kent State in the Deacs 3-1 victory and helped the Deacs get on the board against Louisville on Sunday with a beautiful insert on a penalty corner.
  • Sophomore Faye Janse had a career day against Davidson with a pair of goals for the first time in her career against the Wildcats. Janse was effective, putting three shots on cage, with two finding the goal.
    • Janse was a menace against Louisville on Sunday, leading Wake Forest with three shots, including the game winner.
    • Janse found herself in space along the right side of the circle and fired a laser into the top right corner of the cage for her fourth goal of the 2024 season to win the match in the second overtime period.
    •  The sophomore also added an assist on the Deacs second goal, making a great individual run before feeding fellow second-year Ana Franco to tie the match at 2-2 going into halftime.
