
Demon Deacons Prevail in Overtime at James Madison

Freshman Lauren Storey scored twice to lead the Deacs to victory.
HARRISONBURG, Va. - Just thirty seconds into the overtime period, freshman Lauren Storey struck for her second goal of the match to lead Wake Forest (6-8, 1-4 ACC) over James Madison (10-4, 5-0 MAC) on Sunday afternoon at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
Storey's special freshman season continues as she becomes the first Demon Deacon with 15 or more points since the 2022 season.
Graduate transfer Lotte Smorenburg opened the scoring for Wake Forest with her first goal as a Demon Deacon and seventh of her collegiate career.
Wake Forest had one of its best performances offensively, outshooting James Madison 18-7 (12-6 shots on goal) and generating 11 penalty corners while holding the Dukes to just one.
In goal, junior Ellie Todd added four saves and now has 59 on the season. For the fifth time this season, Todd finished with five or more saves. She now has 184 saves in 50 career games.

- The Deacs answered less than four minutes later on the first goal of the season by graduate transfer Lotte Smorenburg.
