Brennan Claims Back to Back ACC Individual Championship, Deacs Advance to Match Play
4/21/2024 9:32:00 PM | Men's Golf
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- After a 5-hole playoff, Wake Forest men's golf senior Michael Brennan captured his second ACC Individual Championship Sunday at Charlotte Country Club.
Facing rainy and windy conditions, Brennan led the Deacs throughout the entire day, carding a bogey-free back nine.
The senior shot a final-round of 69 (-2) and finished 7-under with a final score of 206.
Brennan and Kjettrup, of Florida State, were then forced to a playoff. After paring hole No. 18 five times, Brennan and Kjettrup were declared co-champions.
Brennan also claimed the individual champion title at the 2023 ACC Tournament, becoming the 23rd player in program history to win the conference individual crown, making this a back to back title.
This is the first time someone has gone back-to-back since Louisville's Robin Sciot-Siegrist in 2015 and 2016, and only the fifth time in ACC history that someone has gone back to back with Wake Forest golfers accomplishing the feat three of those times.
Brennan is now tied with Curtis Strange in holding eight individual titles as a Demon Deacon, the third highest total in program history.

From Coach Haas:
"What a resilient group. After not playing their best yesterday, we were able to come back on the most difficult day of the week and shoot the best round of the day. It was cold, windy and rainy, yet, the golf they played on the back nine shooting three-under was key to advancing us to matchplay. Congratulations to Michael Brennan on winning back to back ACC championships, and also his 8th victory as a Demon Deacon. He joins legendary US Open winner Curtis Strange ('88-'89). Top five ranked team in the country is our match play opponent tomorrow, and what we hope will be a Black and Gold day. Let's go Deacs!"
