The Deacs return home on Friday for a matchup with Syracuse on the ACC Network.
LOWELL, Mass. - Despite outshooting UMass Lowell 20 to six, Wake Forest dropped a 1-0 battle on Sunday afternoon at Wicked Blue Field.
The Deacs (2-5, 0-1 ACC) generated nine penalty corners, including six in the final quarter of play, as they pushed for an equalizer while holding the River Hawks (4-3, 0-0 AEC) to just one in the first five minutes of the match.
The 20 shots for Wake Forest marked the most for the Demon Deacons since taking 24 against Colgate a season ago. Freshman Lauren Storey led the Deacs with four shots while Mia Montag and Faye Janse each had three apiece.
Defensively, it marked the second time this season that the Deacs have held an opponent to under six shots as Wake Forest held App State to just three attempts.
How It Happened
"Tough loss. I'm proud of the second-half performance we generated a tremendous amount of opportunities in open play and set pieces. Unfortunately, none of those prevailed. We will rebound and continue to build." - head coach Jen Averill
