Last Time Out
The men's team is returning to action for the first time since they secured a top-10 finish at the highly competitive Gans Creek Classic. Sophomore JoJo Jourdon led the way for the Demon Deacons, as he placed 26th with a time of 23:05.7. In addition, junior Charlie Sprott secured a top-50 finish to help the Deacs place ninth at the meet.

Meanwhile, the women's team is coming off their second team win of the season after claiming top spot at the Spartan Classic. Redshirt sophomore Alyssa Preisano became the second Demon Deacon to earn an individual title this season, crossing the finish line in 17:45.3. Three other Deacs placed inside the top-10, with junior Palmer Walstad finishing as the runner-up, freshman Charlotte Tuxbury claiming fourth place, and sophomore Mia Prok taking home seventh place. Freshman Amy Weybrecht rounded out the top five finishers with an 11th place result.

Last Year at the Panorama Farms Invitational
The Wake Forest men's cross country team will be looking to repeat as team champions at the Panorama Farms Invitational this upcoming Friday, having previously claimed the title last season by nine points. During last season's race, five Demon Deacons finished inside the top-15, including four in the top-10. Luke Tewalt placed second in the race, while Aidan Ross placed just behind in fifth place, posting a time of 23:27.8 on the 8k course. Meanwhile, Hunter Jones finished in eighth place at 23:31.8, and Charlie Sprott secured a tenth place finish with a time of 23:32.3. Joe O'Brien clocked a time of 23:39.9 for a 13th place result to close out the top five finishers for Wake Forest.

The John Hayes Era
Since arriving in Winston-Salem in 2016, Hayes has helped the men's cross country team grow into a national powerhouse. Under his leadership, the Demon Deacons have claimed two ACC titles in 2022 and 2024, resulting in Hayes earning ACC Coach of the Year honors both years. Hayes was also named USTFCCCA Southeast Region Coach Of The Year four of the last five seasons (2020-22, 2024).

Along with their success in the ACC, the Deacs have also earned a spot at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in five consecutive seasons, extending the longest streak in program history. During this five-year stretch, Wake Forest has finished inside the top-10 twice, including a fifth-place finish in 2022.

Over the course of his tenure with the Deacs, Hayes has produced six All-Americans, including Zach Facioni, the first three-time All-American in program history. Hayes has also coached four ACC Freshman of the Year performers, including back-to-back winners in Charlie Sprott (2023) and JoJo Jourdon (2024), and 14 All-ACC honorees.

Women's Program on the Rise
Under the direction of associate head coach Ashley Bastron, the Wake Forest women's cross country team is competing at a high level this season, having secured three top-10 finishes thus far. The Deacs have claimed two team victories this season, having placed first at the Queen City Invite and the Spartan Classic. Wake Forest also earned a tenth place finish at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo., where the Demon Deacons had three runners place inside the top-50.

Superstar in the Making
Junior Angelina Perez is making a name for herself this season, having claimed two top five finishes this season. The Ringwood, N.J., native secured her first career individual title during the Queen City Invite, clocking a time of 16:19.7. Perez followed that up by securing a fourth place finish at the Gans Creek Classic, finishing the race with a personal-best time of 19:17.8.

Up Next
The Demon Deacons will set their sights on the ACC Cross Country Championships, which will be held on Oct. 31 in Louisville, Kentucky at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. The women's team are set to compete in the 6k race at 9:30 a.m., while the men's squad will look to repeat as ACC Champions as their 8k race is slated for 10:30 a.m. Both races will be streamed on ACC Network.
