No. 6 Wake Forest Concludes Regular Season at No. 4 Virginia

The Demon Deacons can clinch the ACC Regular Season Title outright with a win on Friday night.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wrapping up the regular season, the No. 6 Wake Forest field hockey team battles another ranked opponent, taking on No. 4 Virginia on Friday, Oct. 31, at Turf Field. 
 
Push back between the Demon Deacons and Cavaliers is set for 5 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra.

Wake Forest is 6-0 against ranked opponents since the start of September and looks to cap an undefeated ACC season for the first time since 2005, the Demon Deacons' last regular-season ACC title.

Opponent History
Wake Forest and Virginia will meet for the 53rd time on Friday, with the Cavaliers holding a 32-20 advantage against the Demon Deacons in the series. Wake looks to snap a three-game skid to UVA and earn its first win in Charlottesville since 2022.

Two of the last three matchups between the two ACC powers have ended in overtime. 

Wake Forest Highlights
  • Wake Forest (15-2, 7-0 ACC) holds its longest winning streak since 2005, a season that saw the Demon Deacons win the first 19 matches of the year and advance to the NCAA Semifinals. 
    • The 15-game streak is tied with Harvard for the longest in the country. 
    • The 7-0 start to ACC play marks the first time since 2005 that the Deacs have earned seven-straight wins to start conference play. 
  • The Demon Deacons enter Friday having won 15 consecutive matches while outscoring their opponents 54-13 during that span.
  • Wake Forest has totaled 178 points, ranking third among all teams. 
  • Wake's 63 goals this season are fourth in the country, and the Demon Deacons are one of just four teams to score over 60 goals as a team. 
    • Averaging 3.71 goals per game, Wake Forest ranks fifth in the country in the category. 
  • With 52 assists on the season, the Demon Deacons rank fifth in the nation. 
  • Starting matches strong has been the theme of the season for Wake Forest, as the team is outscoring opponents 31-7 in the first half this season. 
    • The Demon Deacons have owned the first 15 minutes, outscoring opponents 18-1 in the opening quarter. 
      • Wake Forest hasn't allowed a first-quarter goal since the opening match of the year against Iowa. 
    • Over the last five games, Wake Forest has allowed just one goal in the first half entering Friday's matchup. 
  • Wake Forest leads the ACC in shots with 331 and is the only team in the conference averaging over 19 shots a game. 
    • The Deacs lead the ACC by 35 shots, with North Carolina the next closest at 296. 
    • Wake Forest is averaging the most shots on goal per game in the ACC with 11.29. 
    • Over the 15-game streak, the Demon Deacons are outshooting opponents 309 to 113.
      • The 40 shots against Queens marked the most in a game for Wake Forest since at least the 2018 season and was the third time this year the Demon Deacons have had 35 or more shots in a game. 
        • It also marks the most shots by an ACC team in a match this season. 
      • Additionally, Wake Forest has 10 or more shots in all but two games this season. 
  • Wake ranks second in the ACC with 116 penalty corners this season. 
    • Wake Forest's attack corner unit has now found the back of the cage in every game during the 15-match streak, contributing 27 of the team's 63 goals this season. 
  • Junior Mia Schoenbeck ranks second in the country and leads the ACC with 21 goals through the first 17 matches.
    • Additionally, her 46 points rank second in the country. 
    • The LaGrange, Ky. native's biggest goal of the season thus far came in double overtime to help the Demon Deacons take down No. 2 North Carolina for the first time since 2017. 
    • She added a trio of braces in Wake's wins against Davidson, Longwood and UMass Lowell. 
    • The junior clinched the win over Miami (OH) less than two minutes into the overtime period, sending a laser past the RedHawks keeper. 
    • She completed her first hat trick of the season against Queens. 
    • Scoring four goals for the first time in a game in her career, Cal had few answers for Schoenbeck. 
    • She added her second hat trick of the year to lead Wake Forest past No. 8 Duke to clinch a share of the ACC Regular Season Title. 
    • Schoenbeck has scored in 10 of the 15 games over the win streak, including eight goals in the last five matches for the Demon Deacons.
    • She leads the ACC with seven game-winning goals and is fourth in shots on goal (43) and fifth in shots (70) among ACC student-athletes.
    • Schoenbeck and Storey are the first pair of Demon Deacon teammates to have double-digit goals since Jule Grashoff and Nicola Pluta in the 2017 season.
  • Sophomore Mia Montag ranks third in the country and second in the ACC with 17 assists on the year. 
    • She recorded three assists against Cal, connecting with Schoenbeck on three penalty corner goals, and now has 23 helpers for her career. 
    • The Berlin, Germany native has at least one assist in each of the last three matches for the Demon Deacons. 
    • Montag delivered a brace in the opener against Iowa and added two more goals against UMass Lowell.
    • She netted her fifth goal of the season on a perfectly executed set piece against Stanford. 
    • She ranks tied for eighth overall in points in the ACC with 27. 
  • After scoring just one goal as a freshman, Sarah Mudd has come on strong this season for the Demon Deacons, contributing seven goals in the last eight matches. 
    • The sophomore netted her first career hat trick against Queens to bring her total to seven on the year.
    • She added her eighth of the year on a penalty corner against Delaware. 
    • Her ninth came on a deflection to cap the scoring against App State. 
    • The nine goals rank tied for ninth in the conference. 
  • Junior Faye Janse became the fifth Demon Deacon to reach double-digit points with a pair of goals against App State on Sunday. 
    • Janse's brace against the Mountaineers marked the second of her Wake career. 
    • She ranks in the top 10 in the ACC in both shots (44) and shots in goals (24). 
  • Senior goalkeeper Ellie Todd has been a force to be reckoned with inside the cage, with her 52 saves leading the ACC.  
    • Todd has turned it up a notch in conference play, averaging 5.43 saves per conference match, with the next closest ACC goalie at 4.43. 
    • Her 38 saves also rank first in conference play, while her .844 save percentage ranks third. 
  • Of the 19 athletes with 15 or more points this season in the conference, Wake Forest holds four of them with Schoenbeck (46), Storey (34), Montag (27) and Mudd (18). 
    • The Demon Deacons are one of two ACC programs with three student-athletes over 20 points and four student-athletes over 15 points.
