Hayes Unveils 2025-26 Indoor and Outdoor Track Schedule

The Deacs will open their season on Dec. 4 at the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, Va.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Highlighted by hosting the fourth-annual Wake Forest Invitational, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country John Hayes has officially unveiled the 2025-26 indoor and outdoor track and field schedule.
"We're excited to unveil a schedule that brings high levels of competition that give our student-athletes the perfect platform for them to sharpen their skills for the ACC and NCAA Championships," said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country John Hayes. "Our newly resurfaced, banked venue at the JDL Fast Track elevates our indoor program to a national-class setting. We are also proud to host the 2026 Wake Forest Invitational on April 16-17, welcoming more than 50 schools from across the East Coast, as well as some of the greatest collegiate athletes in the country. We also look forward to bringing our community together, including parents, alumni, and current students, for our student relays and the full Demon Deacon track & field experience."
Indoor Season
The Demon Deacons are set to open their 2025-26 indoor track and field season by competing at four separate meets during opening weekend. The Deacs will officially begin their campaign with a trip up to Lynchburg, Va. to compete at the Liberty Kickoff from Dec. 4-5. Wake Forest will also be participating in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston on Dec. 6, as well as both the Visit Winston-Salem College Kickoff (Dec. 6) and the JDL Early Bird Invitational (Dec. 7) in Winston-Salem.
Following an extended break for the winter holidays, the Deacs will return to action on Jan. 17 as they will stay in Winston-Salem to take part in the Mondo College Invitational. The Deacs are set to close the month of January with a dual-schedule lineup, with one group traveling up to Lynchburg for the Brant Tolsma Invitational from Jan. 30-31, while a separate squad will head up north to Boston to compete in the John Thomas Terriers Classic in Boston on Jan. 31.
Wake Forest open February with a pair of local meets, competing in both the Camel City Sprints (Feb. 6) and the Camel City Distance (Feb. 7) meets in Winston-Salem.
The following week, the Deacs will travel out of state as one group of athletes will head back to Lynchburg for the Darius Dixon Invitational, while another contingent will be back in Boston for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Both meets will be held from Feb. 13-14. Meanwhile, another group will stay in Winston to compete at the ASICS Sound Invite on Feb. 14.
The Demon Deacons will close their regular season the following week with another dual-schedule lineup, with one group competing at the DMR Challenge in Boston on Feb. 20, while the other group will compete on Feb. 21 at the JDL Last Chance Invitational in Winston.
Postseason officially begins at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships, which is slated for Feb. 26-28 in Boston, followed by the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 13-14.

Outdoor Season
Following the conclusion of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Demon Deacons jump straight back into competition as they open their outdoor slate at the Bob Davidson Team Challenge from March 20-21 at High Point.
The Deacs then head to the state capital the next weekend to compete in the Raleigh Relays from March 26-28 to conclude the month of March.
After a short break, the Demon Deacons have another dual-schedule lineup, as one group will compete at the Duke Invitational in Durham from April 9-11, while the other group will head out of state for the Hurricane Alumni Invitational from April 10-11 in Coral Gables.
Wake Forest will then host the fourth-annual Wake Forest Invitational at Kentner Stadium from April 16-17, before competing in their final three meets of the regular season at the Penn Relays (April 23-25), the Jim Greene Invitational (May 1-2), and the Duke Twilight (May 3).
Postseason competition opens with the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held from May 14-16 in Louisville. The Demon Deacons return to Kentucky two weeks later for the NCAA First Round East Region meet in Lexington, Ky. on May 27-30.
Qualifying athletes will then advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 10-13.

- The Deacs had two individuals and a relay team earn All-American honors, highlighted by Rocky Hansen breaking the school record in the 5000m with a time of 13:12.65 to claim First Team All-American honors.

- Two other school records were broken during the indoor season.
- Graduate Robbie Grace, who secured six individual titles during the indoor season, set a long jump school record at the Darius Dixon Invitational as she jumped a distance of 6.37 meters.
- The men's distance medley relay team of Hansen, Shelbert, Swanepoel, and Specht shattered the previous school record with a time of 9:17.17 at the Terrier DMR/Last Chance Meet.
- The result also marked the fourth-fastest time in the event in NCAA history.
- Four Demon Deacons earned All-American honors following stellar performances at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, including Hansen, who earned First Team All-American honors after a fifth place finish in the men's 5000m final.

- Individually, senior Emma Douglass broke the program record in the women's 800m multiple times across three consecutive meets, including during the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships where she ran a 2:03.25 during her semifinal heat.
- The Wellington, New Zealand, native also broke the school record in the women's 1500m earlier in the season at the Duke Twilight on May 4.
