Forward Savannah Metcalfe from Perth, Australia becomes the fifth member of the 2025 Wake Forest women’s basketball signing class that is set to arrive on campus this summer.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – On the first day of National Signing Day Wednesday, Wake Forest women's basketball head coach Megan Gebbia announced the signing of forward Savannah Metcalfe from Perth, Australia.

This brings the total number of incoming players for the upcoming season to seventh as the Demon Deacons also announced the signing of four freshman additions during the early signing period in November.

Metcalfe becomes the third signing since the start of the offseason in addition to transfer guard Raven Preston from Elon and transfer forward Grace Oliver from Colorado.

In the signing of Metcalfe, Wake Forest is getting a multi-sport athlete that played at the national team level for Australia throughout her career including representing Australia at the U17 World Cup in 2022.

Over the course of her four years in high school, she was the top scorer for her team, leading the team to four IGSSA Champions and was a four-time MVP of the league.

She becomes the second Australian member of the 2025 class, joining forward Opal Bird. Additionally, she is the fourth Australian player in program history to sign with the program along with guard Alex Sharp and guard Kate Deeble, who are now playing professionally.

Why Wake Forest
"I was looking for a team to support my career and enable me to be the best I can be within the team. Wake Forest offers a great academic program that enables me to develop my career both on and off the court. The academic support provides me with reassurance and confidence that if I'm having difficulty with a subject there is support available to help me with any issues. The Winston-Salem community support for the college is exceptional and made me feel uplifted and part of the broader community. The women's program has a strong family orientated approach. This made me feel at home, coming from a larger family myself. The players, coaches and support staff were amazing in helping me feel accepted and valued during my visit to Wake Forest. I was searching for a group that I could connect with and had similar values to my own with a strong emphasis on inclusion and the combined skills of the individuals to support the success of the team. Wake Forest is competitive in the ACC with strong and competitive teams which can only make us better as we compete with high level players and teams week after week. Wake Forest plays with high intelligence and this will progress the team's development as a whole, including a deep and strong bench. The program's value and culture align with my own. This holistic approach ensures the success of the team in the long run. This combination of attitudes fit perfectly with what I was looking for in selecting a University to support my career." - Savannah Metcalfe

From Coach Gebbia
"Savannah is a great asset at her size that moves well. She is the type of forward we have been looking to add since we have gotten here with her ability to face up and shoot while also bringing a strong presence around the rim on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. She has great touch in her shot and has the ability to stretch the floor. Growing up in Australia, she has consistently played against high-level competition that has helped grow her game. Savannah has been a part of the great Australian international program too, playing on the U17 squad in 2022. We are excited to continue to grow her game and add her unique set of skills to a talented incoming freshman class that we are ready to get here in the summer."
