The John Hayes Era
Across his eight seasons as the director of the Wake Forest Track and Cross Country programs, head coach John Hayes has helped the Demon Deacons rise to the highest ranks in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Under his leadership, the Deacs have claimed two ACC championships in men's cross country over the past three seasons, including their most recent title during the 2024 season. The men's cross country team has also finished inside the top-10 at the NCAA Cross Country championships three times during Hayes' tenure, including a seventh-place finish in 2024 and a program-best fifth-place finish in 2022. Hayes, who was named both Southeast Region and ACC Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2024, has also produced six All-Americans in cross country, with Charlie Sprott becoming the most recent All-American after a 32nd-place finish during the 2024 NCAA Championships.

Along with his achievements in cross country, Hayes has also helped guide the Deacs into success in both indoor and outdoor track and field. In total, the Demon Deacons have earned 113 All-ACC honors, as well as four individual ACC Championships over the past eight seasons.

In outdoor track and field alone, the Deacs have earned 60 All-ACC honors under Hayes, as well as an individual ACC championship by Thomas Vanoppen in the 1500m back in 2022.

Record Breaking Regular Season
The Demon Deacons have earned successful achievements across the 2025 outdoor season, with four individuals combining for five record-setting performances this season.

During Wake Forest's final meet of the regular season at the Duke Twilight, freshman JoJo Jourdon broke the men's 1500m program record with a 3:37.00 finish.

Meanwhile, junior Emma Douglass set the women's 1500m record at the Duke Twilight by .03 seconds, finishing her race with a time of 4:13.94. This marked Douglass' second record-breaking performance of the season, as the Wellington, New Zealand, native had recently broken the record in the women's 800m during the Wake Forest Invitational at 2:03.49, nearly a full second faster than the previous record, which had stood since 2003.

Sophomore Rocky Hansen continued his stellar career at Wake Forest during the outdoor season, setting a new program record in the men's 5K during the Raleigh Relays on March 27, finishing with a time of 13:22.06. This marked Hansen's second record-breaking performance of the season, having set the record in the same event during the indoor season at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, where he finished third overall with a time of 13:12.65.

Finally, sophomore Brooke Wilson set a program record in the 10K during the Raleigh Relays, finishing with a time of 32:50.07.
