
Wake Forest Closes Out First Day of 2025 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Junior Elizabeth Whaley matched her personal-best time with a 4:17.09 finish, as five Demon Deacons secured their spot in the men’s and women’s 1500m finals on Saturday.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest Track & Field program closed out a successful first day of competition at the 2025 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Kentner Stadium, including seeing five individuals on Thursday earn their spots in the men's and women's 1500m final.
Junior Elizabeth Whaley matched her personal-best finish in the 1500m, finishing at 4:17.09 to clinch a spot in the women's 1500m final. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native's personal-best mark, which she had set previously at the Duke Twilight on May 4, currently sits as the fifth-best time in the women's 1500m in program history.
Senior Rylan Engels also secured her spot in the championship race, finishing her qualifying in second with a time of 4:21.62.
On the men's side, sophomore Rocky Hansen led the charge for the Demon Deacons as he took first place in his heat at 3:40.19 to book his spot in the 1500 meter final on Saturday afternoon. Senior Luke Tewalt finished just behind Hansen at 3:40.94 to qualify for Saturday's championship race.
Meanwhile, junior Paul Specht claimed first place in his preliminary heat to qualify for the final, coming across the finish line at 3:41.72.
Elsewhere, sophomore Angelina Perez took ninth-place in the women's 10,000 meter final with a 34:33.93 finish.
Senior Jacob Goldberg notched his best score of the season in the men's hammer throw earlier in the afternoon, recording a distance of 60.64 meters to place 11th overall.
