Douglass, Whaley Lead the Way During Second Day of NCAA East Region First Round

Senior Emma Douglass and junior Elizabeth Whaley secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the women’s 1500m.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Wake Forest Track and Field team continued to find success during the second day of the NCAA East Region First Round, including seeing a pair of individuals on Thursday advance to the next round of the women's 1500m.
Senior Emma Douglass secured her spot in the quarterfinals of the women's 1500m by placing third in her qualifying heat with a time of 4:15.48. Meanwhile, junior Elizabeth Whaley earned a spot in the quarterfinals by finishing with the fastest time outside of the automatic qualifiers, clocking a 4:15.38 in the first round.
Both Douglass and Whaley will now look to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championship meet during the next round on Saturday afternoon.
Additionally, senior Rylan Engels closed out her season in the women's 1500m, ending her qualifying heat with a time of 4:17.56.
Freshman Angelina Perez concluded the evening for the Demon Deacons, finishing 26th in the women's 10,000m with a time of 34:11.07.
Earlier in the day, freshman duo Rosalind Gergely and Julia Pinter competed in the first round of the women's javelin. Gergely, who earned Second Team All-ACC honors in her most recent meet, finished in 20th at 46.47 meters, while Pinter recorded a throw of 43.28 meters to place 36th.
