While Douglass and Jourdon broke program records, sophomore Hunter Jones claimed victory in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase with a time of 8:46.86.
DURHAM, N.C. - Closing out the regular season, the Demon Deacons competed Sunday at the Duke Twilight. Senior Emma Douglass and freshman JoJo Jourdon broke Wake Forest's all-time outdoor records in the 1500 meters, while sophomore Hunter Jones snatched first-place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 8:46.86.
Douglass, who shattered a 22-year-old school record in the 800m at the Wake Forest Invitational on April 18, added another milestone by breaking the 1500m record Sunday. It marked the third time this season she has broken a program record.
She placed second in the event with a time of 4:13.94, surpassing the previous time of 4:13.97, set in 2019 by Johanna Schulz.
Junior Elizabeth Whaley continued her strong season competing alongside Douglass in the 1500m. After winning the 1500m at the Charlotte Invitational on April 25 with a time of 4:20.83, she improved her mark to 4:17.09, finishing eighth overall. The performance moves her to No. 3 on Wake Forest's all-time outdoor list in the event.
In the men's 1500m, freshman JoJo Jourdon broke the program record with a time of 3:37.00, surpassing the previous best of 3:37.65. He placed sixth overall. Bryce Gilmore also turned in a standout performance, finishing 20th in a personal-best 3:42.74 — the 10th-fastest time in Wake Forest history.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Jones claimed victory with a dominant run of 8:46.86. He previously debuted in the event with a 9:10.71 at the Wake Forest Invitational on April 18. He is third on the program list.
