Deacs Scheduled for Afternoon Tipoff Against Virginia

The Demon Deacons game against the Cavaliers was moved up to 3:00 p.m. ET tipoff due to ongoing weather conditions in the region.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After moving the game earlier in the day to weather conditions, the Wake Forest women's basketball team is set to host Virginia Thursday with tipoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (ET) at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Demon Deacons (12-9, 2-7 ACC) are off to their best start in the Megan Gebbia era and are looking to earn their third conference win of the season and the highest NET win so far this season. In the first 21 games, they have been propelled by 17.3 assists per game which ranks 32nd in the country and second in the ACC. The Deacs have had the emergence of sophomore forward Grace Oliver as she is averaging a team-high 13.6 points per game and also ranking ninth nationally with 60.4 percent shooting from the floor which ranks first in the ACC. Going into Thursday, the Deacs ranked 29th nationally and second in the ACC, holding opponents to just 36.3 shooting from the field and also ranking 101st in scoring defense with just 61.0 points per game allowed while also ranking 57th with 27.5 defensive rebounds per game.
The Cavaliers (15-5, 5-3 ACC) have dropped three of their last four games, falling to Syracuse, Duke and NC State during that stretch. They have been one of the better teams in the country in a number of categories, leading the country with 8.0 blocks per game while also ranking seventh nationally with 44.1 rebounds per game and eighth nationally with 19.3 assists per game. Virginia is led by junior guard Kymora Johnson who comes into Thursday ranked second in the ACC with 18.4 points per game and also leading the league and ranking 12th nationally with 6.5 assists per game.
Tipoff for Thursday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (ET) at LJVM Coliseum.

Wake Forest has remained a top competitor defensively well into the season, both nationally and in the ACC. Through 22 games, the Demon Deacons sit ninth in the conference, allowing 61.0 points per game and close behind the top teams.
Additionally, the Deacs rank second in the ACC and 29th in the nation with a 36.3 field goal percentage defense.
Assists On Made Baskets
Wake Forest tallied 15 total assists on the night on 22 made baskets (68.2 percent). In 21 games this season, the Demon Deacons have totaled 363 assists on 529 field goals (68.6 percent) which would mark the highest percentage in the Megan Gebbia era.
The Demon Deacons are averaging 17.3 assists per game, second in the ACC behind Virginia's 19.3. Additionally, the Deacs are on pace to have the second-most assists in program history.
The Deacs did an excellent job of moving the ball last season, as they assisted on 394 of 667 made baskets this season (59.1 pct.). This was the highest assist percentage in the Gebbia era and the assist percentage ranks in the top 70 percent in the nation according to HerHoopStats.
In 2023-24, the Deacs assisted 404 of 694 made field goals (58.2 percent).
Forcing Them Over
The Deacs forced the Hokies into 11 turnovers on Saturday, and have forced 10 or more takeaways 87 times in the last 90 games, a stretch dating back to January of 2022.
Through 21 games, the Demon Deacons have forced 15.7 turnovers per game.
Owning the Paint
The Demon Deacons had another excellent game in the paint, with 34 points posted inside, while allowing Virginia Tech to score just 28, a six-point deficit.
Across 21 games, the Deacs have totaled 664 points in the paint (31.6 per game).
Sharpshooting Deacs
Wake Forest had another fantastic performance from three, going 10-for-20 and recording its best three-point field goal percentage of the year against Clemson. So far this season, the Demon Deacons have knocked down 135 threes (6.4 3FG per game).
Over the last eight games, the Demon Deacons have four double-digit three-point performances coming against Gardner-Webb, Pitt, NC State and Clemson. - The Demon Deacons tallied 15 total assists on the night on 22 made baskets (68.2 percent). Freshman forward Opal Bird led the Deacs with six assists in the game while finishing an efficient 3-of-4 from the field with seven points for the game.
- On the offensive end of the floor, Wake Forest was led by a pair of 13-point performances from freshman Milan Brown and sophomore Grace Oliver. Oliver nearly completed her second-straight double double, posting a team-high eight rebounds.
- Coming into the game, Oliver led the conference and ranked 10th nationally with a 60.7 field goal percentage. She had another efficient night, going 6-of-11 from the floor including 1-of-2 from behind the arc.

- The Deacs were led by a career-high effort from senior guard Raegyn Conley as she finished the night with 17 points on 6-of-17 shooting including a career-best four threes made in the game.
- Conley was crucial for the Demon Deacons in the first half, scoring a team-high 11 in the first 20 minutes including three triples. This helped the Deacs keep the game close at halftime as they were only trailing by two points coming out of the locker room.
- On the defensive end, Wake Forest forced the Cavaliers to 20 turnovers on the night. This marked the fourth time this season that Wake Forest forced 20-or-more turnovers and first since Nov. 20 against George Mason.
The Demon Deacons are out on the road when the Demon Deacons travel to Duke Sunday afternoon for a nationally-televised game.
