FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sophomore Dina Nosenko ran a controlled smart race and qualified for the finals of the women's mile run at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships Friday evening at the University of Arkansas.

The native of Ukraine ran in the first of two preliminary heats and her heat turned out to be the faster of the two. With the top-4 times in each heat plus the two next fastest times moving onto the finals, Nosenko just needed to run a smooth race. She finished fifth in the heat with a time of 4:43.61 and moved into the finals with the seventh-best prelim time. Nosenko ran a personal-best and school-record 4:41.10 last weekend at the Alex Wilson Invitational to qualify for the event.

"For an athlete who has never been to the NCAA Championships, sometimes it's tougher making the finals then it is in the finals," said Wake Forest Director of Track & Field Annie Bennett. "Dina handled herself really well today and I am proud of her for that. I am looking forward to the finals tomorrow."

The top-8 runners in Saturday's final will earn All-American honors. The last Demon Deacon to earn All-American honors during the indoor season was Michelle Sikes, who finished fifth in the 5,000m run in 2007. The only other women's miler to have earned All-American honors is Jill Snyder who took home the award in both 2000 and 2001.

The finals of the women's mile run will begin at 7:25 pm eastern time Saturday evening. ESPN360.com will stream portions of the championships live beginning at 7:10 p.m. eastern time on Saturday. To access the live stream, visit www.ESPN360.com. NCAA.com will stream supplemental coverage as available when ESPN360.com is not live. Additionally, ESPN2 will air a 90-minute show at 1:30 p.m. eastern time, Wednesday, March 17.
