THE MATCHUP
• Wake Forest travels north to face Penn and No. 10 Princeton in the Conference Crossover in its second week of play. Wake Forest will be the 2018 opener for Penn and just the second match of the year for Princeton.
• Princeton is currently ranked No. 10 by the NFHCA
LAST TIME OUT
• The Demon Deacons split the opening weekend at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, falling to No. 20 Iowa 2-1, but they bounced back to upset No. 5 Michigan 3-2 on Sunday.
• Megan Anderson scored the first goal of the season against the Hawkeyes, while Jule Grashoff led the charge on Sunday with a pair of goals and an assist against the Wolverines. Alexis Grippo found the back of the net for the game-winner against Michigan.
QUICK HITS
• Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 27th season at the helm of the program
• The Deacons return 13 players from last year's squad, led by Jule Grashoff, who led the team with 16 goals and 14 assists. The club also welcomes eight new freshmen.
• Grashoff was recently tabbed Preseason ALL-ACC, voted on by the league's seven coaches. Wake Forest was picked to finish seventh in the conference.
• Former U.S. National Team captain Melissa Gonzalez joins Wake Forest as an assistant coach. Gonzalez spent the past eight years competing with the U.S. Women's National Team and representing Team USA at two Olympic Games.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
• Last season, the Quakers compiled a 9-8 overall record.
• Penn returns 17 letter winners, including two-time All-Ivy selections Alexa Schneck and Paige Meily
•Last year's goal leader, and Penn's all-time goal and points leader Alexa Hoover joins the staff as director of operations.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
•The Tigers finished 2017 with a 12-7 overall record, reaching the NCAA Quarterfinals. It was the second straight season that Princeton won at least 12 games and at least one NCAA Tournament game.
• The Tigers won the Ivy League Championship last season, going undefeated at 7-0 in the league.
•Sophomore Mary Kate Neff returns as the team's leading goal scorer as she posted eight last season behind senior Ryan McCarthy's 17.
• The Deacons have only faced Princeton three times. The Tigers hold a 2-1 series lead.
LOOKING AHEAD
•The Demon Deacons will continue road play as the team travels to Mass., to face Boston College and Northeastern Sept. 7 and 9.
