THE MATCHUP
• The Deacons welcome the William and Mary Tribe to Kentner Stadium for the first home match of the 2018 season.
• The match was originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14, but was postponed due to Hurricane Florence.
• The Deacons dropped out of the NFHCA Poll after splitting a pair of matches against No. 13 Boston College and Northeastern.
LAST TIME OUT
• Wake Forest opened ACC play on the road, falling to then No. 13 Boston College 4-3 in double overtime.
• The Deacons bounced back to defeat Northeastern 4-3 as four different Deacs scored goals. Freshman Laia Vancells posted her first career-goal and senior Emily Adamson recorded her first of the season. Veterans Anna van Hoof and Alexis Grippo added the final two goals of the match.
• Northeastern's June Curry-Lindahl grabbed her first career hat trick, scoring all three of the Huskies' goals.
QUICK HITS
• Head coach Jen Averill returns for her 27th season at the helm of the program
• The Deacons return 13 players from last year's squad, led by senior Jule Grashoff, who led the team with 16 goals and 14 assists. The club also welcomes eight new freshmen.
• Grashoff was tabbed Preseason ALL-ACC, voted on by the league's seven coaches. Wake Forest was picked to finish seventh in the conference.
• Former U.S. National Team captain Melissa Gonzalez joins Wake Forest as an assistant coach. Gonzalez spent the past eight years competing with the U.S. Women's National Team and representing Team USA at two Olympic Games.
• The Deacs lead the ACC in saves with 39 through six games (6.50 s/g). Senior Cat O'Connor leads the league in saves per game with 19 stops in three matches (6.33 s/g).
SCOUTING THE TRIBE
• William & Mary enters the matchup at 3-2 on the season. After dropping its first two matches of the year to Duke and Old Dominion, The Tribe has won its last three matches against Lafayette, Brown and VCU.
• William and Mary has scored four goals in each of its last three games and has outscored its last three opponents 12-6.
• Senior Estelle Hughes was named CAA Player of the Week after scoring four goals and an assists last weekend.
• Hughes leads the CAA with six goals.
LOOKING AHEAD
•The Deacs will return to Kentner on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m., as they host No. 7 Louisville in ACC action and then hit the road for a non-conference challenge against Richmond on Sunday.
