WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men and women's track and field return to the queen city for the second time this season to compete in the Charlotte Invitational. Athletes will square off at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on the campus of UNC Charlotte. The Demon Deacons will send 24 athletes on the women's side and 15 for the men's team.

Competition begins on Friday at 2 p.m. with the women's heptathlon and resumes Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Senior Alva Hicks is first up for the Deacs on day one. She'll compete in the women's hammer at 3 p.m.

Friday evening's competition on the track features the men's and women's 800m and 1500m invites. On the men's side, the trio of Dakota Greenwalt, Archie Wallis and Kenton Bachmann will battle in the 800m. Teammates Brent Bailey, Tommy Johnston and Michael Moerk will line up in the 1500m. For the women, Lily Harding-Delooze will run in the 800m, while Hannah Brookover, Johanna Schulz, Sam Halvorsen and Georgia Evans will compete in the 1500m.

The Demon Deacons have a full day of competition on Saturday, beginning with Alexandria Florent and Natalie Marshall in the women's high jump at 11 a.m. On the men's side, Mark Smith gets underway in the shot put, also at 11.

Last time out, the Deacs claimed an event title in the men's high jump at the Raleigh Relays. Freshman Tony Jones won the event with a height of 2.08m for his first collegiate victory. On the track, fellow freshman Zach Facioni blazed to a new outdoor Wake Forest record in the men's 5k with a finishing time of 13:48.16. The Sydney, Australia native broke a 38 year old record of 13:51.90 set by David Crowe in 1981.

After this weekend's competition, the Deacs will head to Charlottesville for the prestigious Virginia Challenge, April 20-21.
