The Matchup
• The third-ranked and fourth-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team begins its NCAA title defense as the 2019 NCAA Tennis Championship begins on Friday, May 3.
• As the No. 4 overall seed, the Demon Deacons will serve as a regional host, welcoming Kentucky, VCU and Morgan State to the Winston-Salem Regional. Wake Forest will face Morgan State at 4 p.m. on Friday while Kentucky and VCU will meet at 1 p.m. The two winners will then face at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Regional Final.
• If Wake Forest were to advance out of the regional round, the Demon Deacons would then welcome the winner of the College Station (Texas A&M) Regional to town on Friday, May 10, for the newly-implemented Super Regional.
Back for More
• The Deacs are looking to repeat as NCAA team champions, having defeated Ohio State, 4-2, in last year's finale played at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
• It was the first NCAA title in program history and Petros Chrysochos would go on to claim the first individual title less than a week later, defeating teammate Borna Gojo for the NCAA Singles Championship.
• If the top seeds advance, the Demon Deacons would have a pair of rematches from last year's tournament run. Wake Forest is slated to meet up with Texas A&M in the Super Regional round and Ohio State in the semifinals this year after facing them in the semifinals and championship a year ago.
• Additionally, Wake Forest could meet up with Virginia in the quarterfinals, which would be the fourth meeting between the two program this year alone.
Lineup Shuffle
• The Demon Deacons have showcased their lineup versatility this year, as 11 different players have played dual matches this spring.
• Melios Efstathiou has shown the most fluidity this year, having played matches at all six singles positions.
Sustained Success
• This year's graduating class of Petros Chrysochos, Alan Gadjiev and Julian Zlobinsky became the winningest class in program history on April 12 against Florida State.
• The win against the Seminoles gave the trio of Deacs their 117th victory as a team, surpassing the previous record of 116, set by last year's graduating class.
• Over the past four years, the Deacs have compiled a record of 121-14 as a team.
