The Demon Deacons’ fall season comes to an end with a 7-2-0 record in competition.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest (7-2-0, 5-1-0) dropped a home quarterfinals match in the ACC Men's Soccer Championship on Sunday night, as the Demon Deacons fell to Virginia (3-3-1, 2-3-1) 2-0 at Spry Stadium. With the outcome, Wake Forest's fall season has concluded.
"I'm proud of the way they gutted it out," said head coach Bobby Muuss. "Numbers were scarce, but it wasn't an excuse. We let up two really soft goals today. We learned a lot about ourselves. We played a lot of young guys, a lot of inexperience on the field, but that's not really an excuse because the guys have gotten a little bit of a run here and there in the conference.
"We'll learn from it, we'll grow from it. We'll be a better side and a better program because of it."
In the 31st minute, Virginia took the lead when Cabrel Happi Kamseu put home a goal for the Cavaliers. The goal was the first Wake Forest had conceded in its last 160 minutes of action dating back to the Demon Deacons' 2-1 victory over Duke on Oct. 23. It was the first time this season that the Demon Deacons trailed going into the halftime break as well.
The Cavaliers doubled up their lead in the 52nd minute, as Happi Kamseu scored his second goal of the night.
Redshirt sophomore Koby Carr and freshman Prince Amponsah made their first career starts in the contest.
