WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest field hockey is back in action at noon on Saturday, taking on Boston College at Kentner Stadium.

Opportunity Awaits
Saturday marks the first of six games against conference opponents this spring. The ACC was the only conference in Division I to play a fall field hockey season, as the NCAA moved its championship to the spring.
Wake Forest will face six ACC opponents this spring, to go alongside the team's six conference games from the fall and five non-conference games (all against ACC opponents) to form their overall record for a potential NCAA tournament appearance.
The top ACC finisher this spring will face fall champion North Carolina on April 23 to claim the conference's automatic qualifying spot to the national tournament.
2020 Fall Review
The Deacs finished the fall with an overall mark of 3-8. Freshman Grace Delmotte led Wake Forest with four goals, while junior Eleanor Winants dished out a team-high four assists.
In the cage, freshmen Tori Glaister and Ally Butler split time for the Deacs in their first collegiate field hockey action. The pair posted a 2.06 Goals Against Average and a save percentage of .558.
This spring, Winants and Olivia Corthals will lead the team as captains.
Last Time Out
The No. 5 seeded Deacs fell in the opening round of the ACC Tournament, losing to No. 4 seed Virginia 2-1 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Scouting the Eagles
Boston College earned its first win of the season on February 28, knocking off Maine 5-3 at home. Through four games, senior Elizabeth Warner is the Eagles' leading scorer with three goals. Junior Jonna Kennedy starts at goalie for Boston College, sporting a .681 save percentage and a 3.76 goals against average.
The Eagles were the No. 7 in the ACC Tournament after going 0-3 during the 2020 fall season, with five games postponed out of their seven-game slate. Wake Forest defeated Boston College during that time frame, posting a 6-2 road victory on November 1st. Delmotte led Wake Forest with two goals, while five Deacs had at least one assist in the contest.
Boston College is led by 2004 Wake Forest graduate and Hall of Fame Inductee (2015) Kelly Doton.
Doton helped lead the Deacs to back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2002 and 2003, and was named ACC Player of the Year in 2002-03, as well as the National Player of the Year in 2003.
