Good morning Demon Deacon Nation!
We are now just two days from Opening Night at Truist Field for a veteran Wake Forest football team and are already fired up here in DEACTOWN thanks to hot starts from Demon Deacon women's soccer and volleyball and a spectacular international representation by Wake Forest golfers at the Curtis Cup last Saturday, including Rachel Kuehn and Emilia Migliaccio leading the United States to victory!
There are still affordable ticket options as low as $15 for fans to enjoy all the fun of Demon Deacon football right here in Winston-Salem starting Friday night although we have just SOLD OUT of Opening Night four packs. We'll have a national TV audience on the expanding ACC Network and the forecast for Friday night looks to be perfect football weather!
I do encourage everyone to bring a little extra patience and grace as we "restart" full gameday operations for the first time in two years. The same workforce shortages and supply chain interruptions other areas of the economy are experiencing may cause a few bumps here and there. Allow plenty of time for your drive so you can enjoy your tailgate or live music in the upgraded DEACTOWN Fan Zone presented by Forsyth County Farm Bureau Insurance and get to the entry gates early. And with the Class of 2025 storming the field pregame as we Open the Gate on a three game home stand to start the season you'll definitely be glad you are in your seat for all the pregame excitement.
And, even though we are doing our best to sprint out of the pandemic, the lingering threat of COVID-19 has us continuing our close work with University leadership, Forsyth County, and state officials to follow COVID-related guidelines for the safety of everyone inside at Truist Field and all venues.
While proof of vaccination isn't required for spectators on Friday night, we encourage vaccinations for all and are proud that nearly 100% of Wake Forest Athletics student-athletes, staff, and coaches are vaccinated. Masks are required in all indoor spaces at Truist Field and we appreciate you following the health and safety guidelines outlined in our fan expectations and initiatives release and the Q&A shared earlier this week.
As we transition to mobile tickets for entry into Truist Field, our Fan Experience and ticketing staff along with our hard working Rhino partners will be circulating and are available at numerous guest information booths inside and around the stadium. Our staff welcomes feedback and encourages you to email gameday@wfu.edu or call 336-758-GAME with those thoughts.
Fans are also encouraged to visit Wake Forest Athletics gameday information website featuring gameday policies and procedures for Truist Field.
More Deacs in Action
Saturday's local action includes field hockey's home opener at Kentner Stadium on Saturday afternoon against App State, Saturday evening's contest for men's soccer against Cornell and men's tennis as they host the UTR event at Jim Leighton Courts all weekend. We also wish volleyball and women's soccer good luck as they compete on the road.
Winston-Salem Comes Together
Wake Forest University's marching band — The Spirit of the Old Gold & Black — and Winston-Salem State University's Red Sea of Sound will once again unite on Opening Night at Truist Field to launch the college football season.
The Red Sea of Sound and the Spirit of the Old Gold and Black inspired us all when they performed together for the first time ever on Wake Forest Football's Opening Night, Aug. 30, 2019. I am thrilled that the collaboration between Wake Forest Director of Athletic Bands Dr. Tim Heath and Winston-Salem State's Dr. Michael Magruder will provide another moment of celebration as we kickoff the 2021 season in DEACTOWN!
Football Ticket Ambassador Program Provides Opportunities
Deacon Club members, local businesses and groups have a longstanding tradition of participating in this hospitality initiative to introduce new fans to Demon Deacon football or treat clients and employees, schools and organizations, and friends and family to the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina at Truist Field.
Loyal Deacon Club supporter Tim Welborn said it best in an article we shared last week, "If you believe in something, you want to support it, and not just financially. Whether it's being a positive voice, encouraging others to attend a game or simply sharing the stories of our student-athletes, we can all be great ambassadors for Wake Forest and our athletic programs."
A special shout out is due to longtime Deacon Club member Jeff Kentner who purchased 1,000 tickets for Winston-Salem State students to attend Friday night's game for Deacon football and enjoy the Red Sea of Sound and Spirit of the Old Gold & Black performance.
Wake The Demons Pep Rally & Wake Forest Student Engagement
Opening Night festivities begin 22 hours before kickoff with the Wake the Demons Pep Rally tomorrow night at 9 p.m. on Hearn Plaza. All students are welcome on the Quad as we introduce the Class of 2025 to game day traditions with our cheer and dance teams and the Spirit of Old Gold & Black. All in attendance will hear a special welcome from President Susan R. Wente, Ph.D., head football coach Dave Clawson, head women's golf coach Kim Lewellen and me. The event will conclude with a dynamic fireworks display over Wait Chapel!
Free DEACTOWN t-shirts will be available to students, while supplies last, and several late-night food trucks will be on hand to provide free food for students immediately following the event. Wake Forest's women's soccer fans attending our 7 p.m. game at Spry Stadium against Loyola Maryland are encouraged to walk to Hearn Plaza after the match to enjoy the pep rally and fireworks!
From the student tailgate and freshman tailgate, freshman field run and the free transportation for students via shuttles from Reynolda campus to Truist Field, our Fan Experience staff and Wake Forest Office of Student Life are working in close collaboration to provide fun for students throughout the season! Students are encouraged to download the Screamin' Demon Rewards App and follow @ScrDemonRewards on Twitter for more information.
