
Balanced Offensive Attack Leads No. 14 Wake Forest to 6-2 Win Over No. 24 James Madison

Six different Demon Deacons found the back of the net in Wake Forest’s second win of the season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Behind a balanced offensive attack, No. 14 Wake Forest picked up a ranked victory over No. 24 James Madison by a score of 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Kentner Stadium. 
Six different Demon Deacons (2-3) found the back of the net to lead the offense, highlighted by the first goals of the season from Ashley Arnold, Olivia Corthals, Maggie Dickman, Nat Friedman and Ashley Hart. For Arnold and Hart, it also marked their first collegiate goals, while Kennedy Wainwright dished out her first career assist. Hannah Maxwell tallied an assist for the second-straight game, and is now tied with Evans with a team-high eight points on the season. 
The offensive outburst marked the first time the Deacs tallied six goals since Nov. 1, 2020 against Boston College. Additionally, it's just the fourth time Wake Forest has produced six scores in a match since 2018.
The Demon Deacons netted their first goal of the match when Elisha Evans scored her second goal of the season following a penalty corner in the fifth minute of the first period. After James Madison (3-3) scored to make it a one-score game, Wake Forest outscored the Dukes 4-1 in the third and fourth periods. 
The Deacs capitalized on a 9-0 penalty corner advantage that led to two penalty corner goals and four total second half goals. The Deacons tallied a total of 12 shots in the second half compared to James Madison's four. 
Overall, Wake Forest out shot the Dukes by a 19-7 tally and have now outshot their opponents in the last three contests by a massive margin of 64-21. 
Tori Glaister made her ninth-straight start in the goal for Wake Forest, registering a season-high tying three saves for the second-consecutive game. Dating back to last season, Glaister now has 11 multi-save games in a row.
How It Happened

	The teams began the game with back-and-forth play over the opening minutes of the game as the match remained scoreless. 
- 
	The Deacs picked up the pace at the 10-minute mark, getting on the scoreboard on their fourth penalty corner of the game as Elisha Evans deflected the ball into the back of the net off a rebound. 
- 
	At the 14-minute mark, the Demon Deacons added to their after lead (2-0) as Ashley Hart took the ball away from a James Madison attacker and fired the ball into the goal for a breakaway goal, the first of her collegiate career.

	Wake Forest held their 2-0 advantage into the second period before the Dukes scored their first goal of the game with a little over seven minutes remaining in the first half.

	The Deacs took their 2-1 lead into the intermission as Wake Forest outshot the Dukes seven to three. Additionally, James Madison didn't notch a penalty corner, while Wake Forest registered four.

	Wake Forest came out fast to begin the second half, increasing their lead to 4-1 with goals from Maggie Dickman (32:16) and Nat Friedman (34:42). - 
		After a penalty corner, multiple passes found Grace Delmotte on the left side of the goal. Delmotte then placed a perfect pass to Dickman for Wake Forest's third goal.

		Friedman's goal came unassist as the junior fired a backhand past James Madison's goalie.

	Following a steal by Lee Ann Gordon, Hannah Maxwell fired a pass across the field to Olivia Corthals, which added to Wake Forest's lead (5-1).

	With a little over three minutes remaining, Ashley Arnold scored the first goal of her career from an assist from Kennedy Wainwright to add another goal to Wake Forest's lead (6-1).

	Moments later, James Madison found the back of the net for the first time since the 14:01 mark in the first period. Wake Forest controlled the ball over the next 59 seconds to earn the 6-2 victory.

Wake Forest travels to No. 12 Duke on Friday, Sept. 17 to open up ACC play. The match will be broadcasted on RSN. 
The Deacs then return home for a pair of matches against UMass (Sunday, Sept. 19) and Virginia (Friday, Sept. 24) at Kentner Stadium. The UMass match will mark the second of three ACC Network broadcasts on the 2021 slate.
