Opponent & Series History
This year's meeting between Wake Forest and Duke marks the 81st matchup between the pair of ACC foes. While the Blue Devils own a 46-34 advantage, the teams have split the last four meetings, three of which came during the 2020-21 season.
The Deacs and Minutewomen are unfamiliar opponents, facing off for the first time Sunday since 2002 when Wake Forest posted an 8-0 victory. UMass won the first-ever meeting 2-0, while the Demon Deacons were victorious the following season, earning a 4-1 win.
Balanced Offensive Attack Nets Second Victory
Behind a balanced offensive attack, Wake Forest picked up a ranked victory over No. 24 James Madison by a score of 6-2 on Sept. 12 at Kentner Stadium.
Six different Demon Deacons found the back of the net to lead the offense, highlighted by the first goals of the season from Ashley Arnold, Olivia Corthals, Maggie Dickman, Nat Friedman and Ashley Hart.
For Arnold and Hart, it also marked their first collegiate goals, while Kennedy Wainwright dished out her first career assist. Hannah Maxwell tallied an assist for the second-straight game, and is now tied with Evans with a team-high eight points on the season.
Heading into ACC play on Friday, Wake Forest is outshooting opponents by a mark of 64-21 in the last three contests, posting a record of 2-1.
Glaister a Mainstay in Goal
Tori Glaister has made nine-straight starts in goal for Wake Forest and has made a season-high tying three saves in consecutive games. Dating back to last season, Glaister now has 11 multi-save games in a row.
Hatty for Hannah
Hannah Maxwell produced a hat trick of goals in the Demon Deacons' first victory of the season against Appalachian State on Sept. 4, setting a new career high.
With her three goals, Maxwell became the first Demon Deacon to notch three goals and tally six points in a single game since Jule Grashoff in 2016.
Maxwell, who has an assist in Wake Forest's last two matches, is currently tied with Elisha Evans with a team-high eight points heading into the weekend.
The Streak Continues
Wake Forest was ranked No. 15 in the third National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll of the 2021 season, marking the 30th-straight poll the Deacs have been ranked. The fourth top-25 poll will be released on Sept. 21.
Last season, the Deacs rose all the way to No. 9, it's highest NHFCA ranking in school history.
