Sophomore Filippo Moroni clinches the thrilling match to advance Wake Forest past Michigan to the second round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend, 4-3.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – With the match coming down to Filippo Moroni for a second consecutive match, the No. 10 Wake Forest men's tennis team battled back to advance past No. 16 Michigan, 4-3 Saturday afternoon.

The win over the Wolverines (2-1) marks Wake Forest's (8-1) first ranked victory of the young season.

Match point came down to court four, where sophomore Filippo Moroni won a third-set thriller to spark celebration inside the Wake Forest Tennis Center and give Wake Forest its eighth win of the year.

Quotable
"It was a big battle. I thought we played good doubles but it didn't go our way, we lost a couple of tiebreakers. It was better for us to lose because it challenged us to come back. The team showed a lot of toughness across the board. It was awesome to see Filippo Moroni in the last match again. He handled like a champ and learned from last time against Tennessee. We are excited and now we have to rest up a little bit. We have another challenge in Notre Dame tomorrow.
The crowd was phenomenal. I have said this for the past couple of years that we have the best fans in the country as a program. It helps a ton as it inspires the team. Hopefully everyone comes out tomorrow because we will need them." - Coach Bresky
