Good Afternoon Demon Deacon Nation,

Sadly, today's From the Quad must begin with an expression of our heartfelt support for our friends and colleagues at the University of Virginia as we extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims & their families from Sunday evening's tragedy in Charlottesville. As President Susan R. Wente, Ph.D., Coach Dave Clawson and I shared on Monday, the entire Wake Forest family stands in solidarity with UVA, its football program and everyone impacted by this tragedy.

Wake Forest held moments of silence at this week's soccer and basketball games and will hold another tomorrow night at Truist Field. Women's basketball wore special warmup shirts yesterday and our football players will have a Virginia decal on their helmets tomorrow.

Our hearts are broken for the families of Lavel Davis Jr., of Dorchester, S.C., Devin Chandler of Huntersville, N.C., and D'Sean Perry of Miami, Fla. We pray for the recovery of Mike Hollins, Jr. and Marlee Morgan.

We remember our commitment to help one another as we transition to our weekend updates.

Packed Sutton Center Inspired By President Wente's Annual Address
Following a beautiful rendition of the Wake Forest Alma Mater by the Demon Divas, President Susan R. Wente, Ph.D took the podium for her second annual presidential address yesterday afternoon. You can watch it here and learn more about the ongoing strategic framework plan and other forward initiatives. A dozen years, which is all that remains before Wake Forest marks the conclusion of its first 200 years in 2034, will fly by. The foundation and vision we prepare today will indeed launch Wake Forest to new heights in our third century of Pro Humanitate!

Men's XC Ready to Race for NCAA Title in Stillwater
Our ACC Champion men's cross country team earned an at-large berth to tomorrow's NCAA Championship meet in Stillwater, Okla. after a third place NCAA regional finish. This is the Demon Deacons' third-consecutive and 12th all-time NCAA Championship meet appearance!  Saturday's championship race begins at 11:10 a.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPNU and the ESPN App. Coach Hayes and staff have our lads ready to run smart and run fast!

Men's and Women's Basketball Head for Warm Climes After Fun Wins in the Joel
Turkey Week basketball travels are already underway and our 3-0 men's team tips off against La Salle at 2 p.m. in the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic and I'll be watching the live television coverage on CBS Sports Network. The Deacs scored a thrilling overtime win against a talented Utah Valley team on Tuesday night and the game-winning shot by graduate transfer guard Tyree Appleby off two perfect passes from Cameron Hildreth and Matthew Marsh was the No. 1 play on ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10! Coach Forbes' squad is off to a 3-0 start, including a seismic win over the SEC's Georgia Bulldogs last week in front of a great crowd inside LJVM.

The good vibes inside the Joel continued yesterday morning when nearly 4,000 kids flooded the Coliseum for our annual school day game! Coach Megan Gebbia's squad earned their third win of the season as a strong fourth quarter helped the Deacs down Mercer, 70-45. Special thanks to our hardworking Fan Experience staff for organizing all the logistics to enable students from 19 schools in Forsyth and Yadkin counties to enjoy yesterday's game!

Coach Gebbia and her squad will head to the Bahamas tomorrow where they will take on Missouri and Alabama on Monday and Wednesday, respectively. Complete schedules and broadcast information for all the games can be found here

Senior Night, Live ACC Huddle Show for Saturday's Home Football Finale at Truist Field
A record setting home season comes to close tomorrow night as we honor a group of very special senior student-athletes, band members, cheerleaders, Dazzling Deacs and football student staffers who have persevered through the pandemic and other challenges to create a whole new standard of excellence for both Wake Forest football and the overall Demon Deacons gameday experience! We've had thrilling moments and although we were just a couple plays away from an undefeated home season, Wake Forest fans and students have created a unique atmosphere in Truist Field, with what is now a 19-4 record since 2019. This season Truist Field has hosted three sellout crowds and we have set a new student attendance record with an average of 3,606 in our first six games and the Deacons will soon head to a seventh-consecutive bowl game, the second-longest streak in the ACC.

Please arrive at Truist Field early on Saturday prior to our 8 p.m. kickoff. With a near-capacity crowd expected, Wake Forest Athletics will open all stadium parking and tailgate lots at 3 p.m. and we encourage all fans to allow for extra time to park, enter and get to their seats for our pregame senior recognitions. Great food and beverages and free live music and games for all ages are available beginning at 5 p.m. in the DEACTOWN Fan Zone presented by Forsyth County Farm Bureau Insurance.

For the second-consecutive year, Wake Forest Athletics will welcome ACCN's The Huddle for live pregame and postgame shows and broadcasts throughout the day! The Huddle set will be located on Deacon Hill near the Seven Saturdays Bar, Presented by R&D Brewing, and the Bob McCreary Video Board Honoring the Class of 1961.

Additionally, TODAY from 3-7 p.m. the ACC Network will be live in the DEACTOWN Fan Zone area outside Gate 1 at Truist Field near the Deacon Statue with the "In Play" and "ACC PM" shows. Come on by and welcome our friends from ACC Network!

Welcome to Wake Forest! 21 New Demon Deacons Recently Announced
Wake Forest baseball, men's golf, women's golf, volleyball, women's basketball, women's soccer and men's basketball all announced signees as a part of the fall semester national signing day! GoDeacs.com and all our sports social media accounts will continue to share more signing news!

As I shared in last week's edition of From the Quad, our coaches spend countless hours over several years evaluating and identifying the right young men and women to join our Wake Forest and Winston-Salem community. All of these future Demon Deacons chose our premiere institution because we can check the "boxes" that are most important to them!

Meanwhile, we wish bon voyage to Wake Forest to Wake Forest senior, Alica Hauser, who was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study at England's Oxford University beginning in the fall of 2023. She was among 32 Americans announced by the Rhodes Trust on Nov. 12, selected from among 840 candidates endorsed by 244 different colleges!

From the Quad Big 3
Here are today's Big 3 ways to help the Deacs:
  1. Give your credit card a break and join us for FREE Black Friday volleyball at 3 p.m. in Varsity Arena on campus next week. We'll honor our volleyball seniors as we host Clemson in our final match of the regular season. Follow our volleyball social media channels as we spotlight a dedicated senior class that has elevated our program.
  2. Share the story of 89-year-old James Brown, who was wounded while fighting behind enemy lines in the Korean War, and received his Purple Heart last weekend during halftime. Law students and professors from the Wake Forest University' School of Law's Veterans Legal Clinic helped Brown win a long legal battle to correct his military record and restore his right to be buried with the American flag he fought for so many years ago. Pro Humanitate at its finest!
  3. Bring your family or a friend to Joel Coliseum for men's and women's basketball! Wake Forest is set to host 10 games between Wednesday next week and New Year's Day! Click here for tickets to be part of fun and competitive ACC basketball!
Please hug those who are closest to you, enjoy a safe Thanksgiving Holiday, sport your #WFFriday Old Gold & Black, send your thoughts to me at wfuad@wfu.edu, and...

Go Deacs!
