No. 6 Wake Forest Begins Spring Slate in Florida

2/5/2022 5:58:00 PM | Women's Golf

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 6 Wake Forest women's golf team is set to open the spring slate Sunday, Feb. 6 at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla., hosted by Central Florida.

Wake Forest is coming off a fall season where the team earned two team titles and one individual title. The Deacs took home the team titles at the Bryan National Collegiate and the Tar Heel Invitational. Both wins were by a double-digit stroke margin.

Junior Rachel Kuehn made history in the fall at the Tar Heel Invite with a course-record, tournament-record and program-record score of 63 in her second round. That nine-under-par day helped her finish with the third-lowest score in tournament history, 205, for the individual title. It was the third individual title of Kuehn's collegiate career. She was also named to the final fall watch list for the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel this week. Kuehn currently leads the Deacs with a 70.75 stroke average over 12 rounds of fall play. She finished inside the top 25 in every event of the fall.

Sophomore Mimi Rhodes is second on the team with a 71.83 stroke average over 12 rounds. She finished inside the top 15 in three of the four fall events. Freshman Carolina Chacarra had her best finish at the Bryan National, coming in T5. She continued her top 20 finishes at the Tar Heel (T16) and the Landfall (T17) to close out the fall season.

Grad transfer Virunpat Olankitkunchai finished inside the top 25 in the final three events of the fall. She finished in fourth place at the Bryan National, T21 at the Tar Heel and T23 at the Landfall Tradition. She is currently fourth on the team with a 72.33 stroke average.

Junior Lauren Walsh finished the fall with a 72.42 stroke average over 12 rounds. Walsh is coming off a T34 finish at the Landfall Tradition and started the fall season strong with a T8 finish at the ANNIKA and a 15th place finish at the Bryan National.

Wake Forest will be paired with Auburn and Miami off holes three through six for an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
