
Demon Deacons Close Regular Season with 4-0 Win at Colgate

Hamilton, N.Y - In their final regular season contest, the Wake Forest field hockey team put together their best offensive performance of the season with a season-high 23 shots to defeat Colgate 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Tyler's Field.
Entering the contest having yet to score in her young Wake Forest career, Amelia Frey left the match with three goals, scoring once in the third quarter and twice in the fourth for the hat trick. Freshman Faye Janse assisted on both in the final quarter for the first two-assist match of her Wake career. Mia Schoenbeck got the Deacs (8-8, 1-5 ACC) on the board in the second quarter with her second goal of her freshman season.
In cage, Ellie Todd faced just four shots, coming away with one save on a Colgate (3-14, 0-6 Patriot) penalty corner attack. For the fifth time this season, Wake's defense kept an opponent under five shots.
Wake finished nonconference action with four-straight victories with all four wins coming away from Kentner Stadium.

How It Happened
- Freshman Faye Janse created the first chance with a shot on cage forcing the Colgate keeper into early action.
- Ava Moore ripped the Deacs second shot of the contest four minutes into the game going to the left of the cage.
- On Wake's third corner of the afternoon, Janse got a pair of shots off, as the Deacs continued to create chances in the circle.
- Schoenbeck finally broke through for the Deacs with her second goal of the season, scoring on a second chance shot off the fourth Wake corner of the contest.
- Wake created 14 shots during the opening 30 minutes of action with nine on cage.
- Janse led the Deacs with four shots during the opening half with Moore right behind her with three.
- The Wake defense held Colgate to just two shots with both attempts coming off of penalty corners and were blocked before reaching Todd in cage.
- With 11 minutes left in the third quarter, Todd made her first and only save of the afternoon, diving to her left to stop a Colgate penalty corner.
- Frey extended the Demon Deacons lead with just under five minutes left in the second quarter beating the Raiders goalie to her right for her first goal in a Wake Forest uniform.
- Frey added her second just minutes later, finding the back of the cage just two minutes into the final quarter of action.
