Demon Deacons Close Regular Season against No. 3 Virginia on Friday

The Deacs will honor six student-athletes postgame as part of Senior and Graduates Night.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Playing the last four matches on the road, the Wake Forest field hockey team returns to Kentner Stadium on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. for the final regular season contest of the season against No. 3 Virginia.

The Deacs will honor Lilly Avrigian, Anabelle Brodeur, Ashley Hart, Julia LeClercq, Brooke McCusker and Lotte Smorenburg following the matchup with the Cavaliers.

Opponent/Series History
  • Wake Forest and Virginia will meet for the 52nd time on Friday, with the Cavaliers holding a 31-20 advantage in the series dating back to 1983. 
  • The Deacs are looking to break a two-game skid to the Cavaliers, having last won against UVA in 2022 with a 1-0 victory in Charlottesville.

Wake Forest Highlights
  • Wake's underclassmen have been the story so far, as freshmen and sophomore student-athletes have combined for 59 of Wake's 75 points.
  • A season ago, the Deacs had just one athlete go for over eight points on the season. In 2024, four student-athletes are over the eight-point mark, with all four being underclassmen.
  • Junior goalkeeper Ellie Todd is third among league keepers at 3.94 SPG
    • Todd also ranks tied for second in the ACC with 63 saves on the season. 
  • Freshman Lauren Storey is one of 11 student-athletes in the ACC with seven goals or more, having struck three times in the last three matches she's appeared in.
  • Freshman Mia Montag is one of 17 ACC student-athletes with five or more assists on the season and ranks inside the top 10 in the conference in assists.
  • Sophomore Faye Janse joined Storey as Deacs with double-digit points, adding an assist at James Madison. She followed it up with her second overtime game winner sending a rocket into the back of the cage to give the Deacs a 3-2 victory in double overtime at California.  
Up Next
With the win at California on Sunday, the Deacs secured their spot in postseason play, qualifying for the ACC Tournament. The Demon Deacons will have home field advantage for the ACC Tournament as it will be hosted at historic Kentner Field from Nov. 5-8.
