
Demon Deacons Look to Continue Winning Ways in Boston

The Deacs open ACC play against Boston College for the first time since 2019.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team opens ACC play at Boston College on Friday, before closing the weekend with a non-conference matchup at first-time opponent UMass Lowell.
First touch against the Eagles is set for 5 p.m. on ACC Network Extra while the match against UMass Lowell will get underway on Sunday at noon on ESPN+.
Enjoying a 2-0 weekend, the Deacs outscored their opponents 8-1 over two matches against App State and VCU. The four goals in back-to-back matches marked the highest offensive output for the Deacs since scoring six goals in three-straight matches against Lafayette, UC Davis and Cal back in 2022.

- Head coach Jen Averill is in her 33rd season at the helm of the Wake Forest field hockey program, amassing an overall record of 421-236-3 as a Demon Deacon and an overall mark of 441-268-6 in 33 years of coaching.
- Wake returns 16 players from the 2023 squad and welcomes eight freshmen and two transfers to the program. The returners made 211 appearances last season, seven of which appeared in all 17 matches.
- Junior goalkeeper Ellie Todd is first among league keepers at 4.40 SPG, averaging 1.23 more saves per game than the next closest ACC goalie.
- Todd leads the league with 22 saves on the season and is tied for the highest save percentage among ACC goalies at .846 percent.
- She is one of just three ACC goalies with two shutouts so far this season.
- Her eight saves against Michigan is the second most by an ACC goalie this season so far this season.
- Sophomore Mia Schoenbeck was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team, announced by the league ahead of the season.
- In her debut season, Schoenbeck netted two goals and an assist to finish her freshman campaign with five points. She made 13 starts for the Demon Deacons, appearing in all 17 matches.
- The Louisville, Kentucky native was one of just two freshmen named to the NFHCA South All-Region Second Team.
- A member of Team USA at the 2024 Junior Pan American Championships, Schoenbeck helped guide her country to silver at the games, including a goal in the 32nd minute against Canada in the final game of the group stage.
- Schoenbeck made her mark early on the 2024 season with an assist, finding fellow sophomore Faye Janse for the first goal of the 2024 season for the Deacs and followed it with her first goal against VCU rocketing a penalty corner into the back of the cage.
- Freshman Lauren Storey is one of 12 student-athletes in the ACC with three goals or more to start the year, having struck three times in the last two matches.
- App State had no answers for Storey in the second half, as she fired a penalty stroke past the App State keeper in the third quarter to extend the Wake Forest lead. The Auckland, New Zealand native capped the scoring for Wake early in the fourth quarter. Storey sent a laser into the bottom left corner of the cage to make it 3-0 before the half against VCU.
- Senior Brooke McCusker is one of nine ACC student-athletes with three or more assists on the season.
